Feds proudly announce seizure of ‘counterfeit Apple AirPods’ that are actually OnePlus Buds

Summary

CBP officers at JFK proudly announce on Twitter that they were able to confiscate counterfeit Apple airpods... except they were Oneplus Buds.

US Customs and Border Protection tonight tweeted that its officers had “recently seized 2,000 counterfeit Apple AirPods from Hong Kong, valued at $398K had they been genuine.” There’s also this press release on the situation, which praises CBP officers for “protecting the American public from various dangers on a daily basis” and says that “the interception of these counterfeit earbuds is a direct reflection of the vigilance and commitment to mission success by our CBP officers daily.”

The only problem is, based on the agency’s own photos, the seized products appear to be legitimate OnePlus Buds — transported in a box that plainly says as much.

Mostly LOL. Your tax dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen.

Wow, what do they think with?

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”

Lol how do you explain to your boss that you just seized 2,000 legitimate products, then proceeded to brag about it? As if people didn't already think the agency was incompetent enough.

There is no hole so deep that the feds can't dig it even deeper!

I’m tempted to wait this one out.  If they pulled a stupid it will become clear.   Counterfeiters have been known to do very complicated things though. Thurmond 158,00 into 300some k is something a counterfeiter might do.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

If they are really that hard to tell apart, maybe Apple should sue OnePlus for infringing on their intellectual property.

but they're really not. anyone who takes two additional seconds to look at the Buds can tell they /aren't/ Airpods, even when someone else is wearing them.

The fact Apple hasn't gone after them already for basically copying their design is surprising.

They look way more similar than the iPhone and Galaxy S did back in the day.

I still think the pear logo was a coincidence thing having to do with it being more or less the exact same logo as pear computing which they actually did go after many years ago.  As for the one-plus buds thing this may be a situation where a counterfeiter is doing something complicated and we don’t have all the facts or just a straight up screw up as described.  Time will tell.

And that's why my friends it is a bad idea to have so many Wireless In Ears on the Market that basically look the same.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

Can't wait to post on social media for likes, rather than verifying whether they are fake or not, which really isn't. It says OnePlus on it and, it's not even marketed as Apple Airpods.
