Epic Games announces a slew of more EGS exclusives, including The Outer Worlds and Heavy Rain

The list of exclusives that Epic has just announced are:

 

Afterparty

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Beyond: Two Souls

Control

The Cycle

Detroit: Become Human

Heavy Rain

Industries of Titan

Kine

Journey To The Savage Planet

The Outer Worlds

 

Epic also announced Trover Saves the Universe, which, going by some light research I did, isn't currently confirmed to be an EGS exclusive title. If it isn't one, that would make it the only title from the list of newly-announced games that isn't exclusive to EGS.

 

Some of the games in this list are exclusive to EGS for 1 year after their release, and others have no announced release date outside of the EGS even beyond the first year of release. Many of these games were advertised on Steam for a while before this sudden news of those games going exclusive to EGS.

 

 

I don't have anything positive to say about EGS' thuggish anti-competitive and consumer-spiting practice of buying out the distribution rights.

I haven't pirated a game since... so many years ago that I can't even remember when. I have hundreds of games on Steam and GoG, and dozens on Origin and Uplay, and I have normally felt empathy for developer's concerns about piracy (though I have never supported abusive DRM practices). But, for developers who feed paid-for exclusives and take away consumer choice for selfish benefit I just do not feel the same way. If anyone were to tell me they've pirated a game instead of supporting paid-for exclusives, I sense I personally would feel they are entitled to that as the developer chose to not make their game available where people were happy and eager to purchase it.

 

If a developer wants to complain about that, well, their eager customer-base complained first when the developer disregarded them. A person who initially and without provocation spits in your face and pisses on you doesn't get to complain when you spit back or refuse to buy something from them afterwards. And if a developer wants the people eager to buy their games to buy them, then they know how to get it to happen. Making their game exclusive to an increasingly despised platform and company (for good reason) is not the way to make it happen.

 

 

With EGS buying out distribution for so many anticipated titles, I wonder what things are like at Valve right now. If something doesn't change then Steam is going to be barren of any significant titles.

 

I think that one of Valve's most foolish errors is that they haven't been releasing their own games over the years and haven't been making an impression to gaming audiences. They truly have been too comfortable treading water in one place. While Valve do have the best platform and are mostly consumer-friendly, an unfortunate fact is that a lot of people don't notice those things and don't know its value. And those people are likely to not care whether they buy from Valve or EGS and to not have an opinion on the business practices of the two companies.

I honestly don’t care what platform a game is on, and as long as I can play it I’m cool. I have enough things in my life to worry about, and complaining about game distribution practices isn’t worth the energy.

I'm all for rewarding devs for their work, but whoever does business with EGS will not see a single cent from me.  I'll just pirate their games instead of buying them and won't feel bad about it at all.

In all honesty, I wasn't name-calling. I believe what I wrote and that it's relevant because it's detrimentally influencing EGS and the PC games industry. I suspect there is a condition to his personality and thinking that disconnects his judgment from more experienced and fleshed-out logic. And, I think that might have developed by his being insulated from society, even if by his own choice and in pursuit of his own interests.

 

I also think he probably has inadvertently adopted various perceived projections of old-school nerdism into his personality without being strong enough to overcome them... something that I think many other people in the industry have also done - but with Tim Sweeney the case appears extreme.

My left ear enjoyed this.

 

I have been a console player all my life (with the exception of some MMOs like Wakfu or Dofus when I was a Teenager and LoL which I still play), and to be honest the worst thing about it was seeing games releasing in specific platforms, that always result in segregated communities.

 

I don't want that for pc. #SadFace

 

Also, excited to see some PS exclusives coming to pc, the more people that can experience them the better.

According to all I could find it was PS3 only, then later released for PS4.

AFAIK, it came out only on consoles. There isn't a store page for it on Steam.

Even if the platform in question is substandard when compared to other clients out there?  Even if the platform in question has questionable security practices?  Even if supporting that means de facto endorsing a concept, which will only serve to split the PC gaming community even further than it already has been?

I want to apologize for my opinions first and foremost:

 

1. I don't understand what the hubbub is all about against EGS. It's not like I have to buy a new PC to be able to use it separate from steam.

2. There have been other games stores (gog) but I wouldn't say that they compete with steam, so I don't know how, other than exclusivity, EGS can actually take marketshare and compete against steam.

3. I rarely browse the steam store these days, there's so many many games that I feel are total waste of time and it's hard to filter out the decent and good games (talking about indie games here).

4. I understand EGS doesn't have as many features as Steam, but Steam has had years to work on these features. As far as I know, EGS is less than a year old(?)

 

Please shed some light because I really don't get the hate.
