i want to be able to use my laptop as a third display but the thing is i dont know the name of the program linus mentioned in his videos that said could do that

If you are referring to the sponsored ad in very old LTT videos, that was Synergy. It at some point went commercialized and someone forked the last open-source version and maintained it in the name of Barrier.

 

There are also other options such as Mouse Without Borders in PowerToys (Windows only) and ShareMouse (commercial).
