UKs Porn Pass law has just passed, will go into affect in July

Master Disaster

How else are teenagers going to satisfy their "urges" now? Everyone knows that teenagers watch porn. Hope your age of consent laws aren't complete bullshit either because they're going to go from watching this online to doing it in person xD

But won't someone think of the children??? Who will just share the grumble on Whatsapp and so on, and it will be the old guys who are deprived of their porn fix. Why are our politicians so incapable of thinking things through?

We're just going to have to be more open about our porn habits. "Good day newskeep. I need big black booty as a matter of some urgency"

This is what I don't understand, in the 60's it was pretty normal to have PG rated movies show sex scenes and now these days you can't even do that without raising the rating to 12/12A.

People nowdays are just becoming huge pussies.

Here in Germany some songs on the radio are censored (anything to do with sex and drugs) in the most cringey way possible. Songs just usually go quiet wherever  there are 'swear words' or the word is masked somehow.

In Macklemore's 'Thrift Shop' for example, a rooster can be heard instead of Macklemore singing 'waddup, I got a bick c*ck'. And that's one of the better executed examples...

It won't work, piratebay is still easy as piss to access. Someone will try take it to the ECHR claiming is it a human right to spray man juice all over the ceiling whilst watching a granny with a horse.

The censoring of "Thrift Shop" is one of the best censoring jobs I've ever heard.  I believe Ryan Lewis (Macklemore's record producer) even won awards for that...

As a young(ish) person pretty much everyone knows about vpns or proxies. If not, there are going to be loads of people learning about them soon,

Also, who TF thought that going to see the post office for a porn pass was a good idea? "yes id like to send this tracked 1st, and 1 porn pass"

Its bad enough as it is with awkwardness in this country without having to look like a tool infront  of everyone

But I agree, it's pointless.

Starting July 15th any website where more than a third of its hosted content is pornography or any website which hosts pornography and makes money through charging a fee or advertising will be legally obligated to verify the age of anybody trying to access them from the UK.

Failure to comply will result in the offending sites being blocked by ISPs.

Originally the plan was to fine website owners however this would be hard to enforce however ministers have made it clear they will look at fines and other possible measures in the future.

The BBFC will have ultimate responsibility for the the action, they will be able to have sites that don't obey blocked. Ultimately how the age is verified will be left up to the sites but there will also be a "reward" mark made available for sites that offer "robust data protection schemes".

Adults will be able to purchase "porn passes" from registered shops to verify their age face to face.

Fucking hell my country sucks. Honestly it won't be long until the UK has its own great firewall.

I honestly think the age of the free internet is starting to end. I reckon in a decade or two the internet will be a VERY different thing.

It was passed a long time ago (first time it popped up was in 2007/2008 when UK marketed it for EU and was laughed off, because idiots). It was firstly timed to come into effect somewhere around 2018, but didn't and was delayed to 2019. Then it was supposed to become into effect 1st of April 2019 and didn't. Now it's just another date that comes and goes and probbaly nothing happens, just like with brexit.

UK really is one little island which is all talk but when it comes to acting, nothing happens. :D

And the count-down until an inevitable scandal involving the leaking of the government's porn-pass and porn-viewing records begins.

Department In Charge Of Data Protection Just Broke Its Own Rules In An Email About Porn

Quote

The government department responsible for the protection of online data today broke its own rules when it revealed the email addresses of hundreds of journalists.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport gaffe comes just weeks after much more serious errors by the Home Office, which revealed contact details of thousands of members of the public.

In a press release about the implementation date of the new porn block rules, a DCMS staffer appears to have CC’d a list of names instead of making them BCC’d, which would have hidden them from each of the recipients.

Under General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) introduced last year, this is an offence.

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse was fined £200,000 for revealing the names of 90 individuals in August.

I cannot imagine a situation in which anyone participates in or takes this law in any way seriously. People aren't gonna pay for porn, they sure as hell aren't gonna give their personal information to porn companies, and they sure as hell won't be going out in public to buy a so-called "porn pass". If the government does actually try to fine sites for not complying, those sites are far more likely to just ban the UK until the UK gets it shit together. Not to mention that if people aren't able to use the more popular porn sites, they'll just go find the smaller, less known sites - sites which will be far more likely to contain malware. And then there's the fact that even if people do participate in this nonsense, there's no way that the data involved will remain secure; if anything, it will be a prime target that bad actors would love to get their hands on. This just seems like a bad idea all around.
