I spilled a protein shake into my laptop

I have a HP Probook G4 and I am a idiot.

I spilled my protein shake into it. Fortunately it wasn't a lot, only around 50ml.

I spilled it into the top left corner of the keyboard, so the power button, left upper part of the keyboard, part of the speaker and the left hinge took the hit. Also some got into the exhaust hole, so some of it might have gotten into the fan.

I already let it drip out of the exhaust and now it's dripping out of the keyboard.

I can't take out the battery since I am at school and I don't have any tools. I am gonna do that when I get home.

But what should I do with it after that? I am pretty sure the warranty doesn't cover this.

Should I also clean it with alcohol since it's quite sticky?

Either way, leave it off for a few days

Some people only drink it when they are not working out on those days. 

 

I would just try to clean it off and remove the battery, and leave it to dry for around a month and see if it will boot up again.

That is a myth and will not do a thing. It isn't the water that causes the damage, it's the minerals in it and they do not evaporate. The minerals will stay and cause corrosion and shorts.

Yes but leave it to sit and dry maybe then clean it, would mean less damage to components as more liquid cant be good after what has just happened ahhh

WTF?? That's an expensive soda drink! Pretty pointless as you only piss the protein out if you have no muscle tears to repair

You could strip it down and leave the components in the oven over night at a high temp. ha I'm joking and the rice method does work man, I have done it many of times!

Also, you cant say "it's dead" as it may well be fine once dried and cleaned with alcohol

Well, personally i think they still workout abit at home anyways but not as intensive i guess. If you are balling with money that won't be a issue.

If the protein shake had any type of sugar in it you are screwed. It might seem fine but slowly the sugar will short out your keyboard. I see this happen all the time. You need to clean it out pronto

Protein shakes unlike simple water spills dry up and get crusty and smelly and leave residue. iFixit recommends using deionized water to clean it all out, making sure battery is taken out prior. Once you give it a good wash, then its rice bag dry time, then air dry for at least 5-6 days.

This is painful. The battery is the last part you can take out. That's a pretty shitty design.

I feel your pain, I spilled wine on a macbook pro keyboard (dont judge) had to replace it, the keyboard has 106 tiny screws. Had to remove EVERYTHING. Took me 8 hours.

Wait. I feel like everyone is missing something here. This has a spill-resistant keyboard no???? Just like every business laptop ever??? It shouldn't have even reached the motherboard or core components. Just get some water or isopropyl alchlhol and pour it in the exact location you spilled it to flush it out...LOL I don't even see that big of a problem here wtf. I've spilled shit on my T560. Literally poured water on it, got a compressed air can and just targeted the affected areas to flush out residue and literally ket working on it. 

 

All the above recommendations are fine, but you have a business laptop for a reason. Use the features it gives you.

Well, the issue is that some of it got into the exhaust, also into the crack between the front and back part of the body, into the hinge and the fluid is quite stick so not everything will drip out. Even with compressed air.
