Opinions on Tesla GPU accelerators for folding?

I want to get more PPD for the least amount of hardware money, I was looking at the m40 12gb on ebay but I'm open to other suggestions. I just liked this option because its relatively cheap and also seems to be decent performance. I am going to be using them for light gaming but really their main use will be folding. I know that there is no video out on the cards and I will just use the workaround shown by the video linked below. If there are any other questions I can try my best to help.

Pretty sure everyone wants that. So here are some numbers.

Taken from here:

https://folding.lar.systems/gpu_ppd/brands/nvidia/folding_profile/gm200gl_tesla_m40_6844

Tesla M40 best PPD numbers is 2M PPD.

Tesla M40 average PPD numbers is 925k PPD.

These numbers are based on Windows as I am assuming if you're gaming on it then it will be a Windows host.

Not sure on the cost of M40s.

However, based on the list at that web site there are a bunch of RTX and GTX GPUs that do twice (or more) PPD on F@H and could potentially be less money than that GPU (Again I don't know how much they go for)

Eww, that thing's basically a GTX 980. Yeah they're cheap, but they'll more than make up the difference in power consumption.

One RTX 3060 is going to be faster than two M40s, and draw a fraction of the power. You won't need any janky cooling solutions, either.

I am on windows 11, as shown in the PC part picker link

the m40s I found on ebay were about 45 bucks

can you explain more about which could be better value?

if I pay nothing for power, would you still recommend the same? If not what would you recommend

The M40 is not the better value. It might be cheap to buy the card, but the power draw is going to be significantly more than newer cards that can do more PPD and be cheaper on the power bill.

I'd spend more money on a lower end RTX GPU in the 20-series or 30-series. It might be 3 - 4x the up front cost, but folding nearly 24/7 on them will be significantly cheaper over a long period.

Look at the list for yourself.

See what GPU you can afford and where it lands on the list. Wont take much to out produce a M40 on F@H.

Who's paying for power?

An RTX 3060 or used 2080 for around the $200 range.

You'd also be able to use an RTX card to tinker with AI stuff if you really wanted to. Even a midrange 30-series card is orders of magnitude faster at that than the flagship Maxwell chip.

M40s are a waste of money. Believe me, I tried playing with them for a bit.

I understand where you are coming from but I don't pay for power so there is no point in paying 3 or 4x the up front price, I choose the m40s because they are barely anything upfront and they cost me nothing in the long term (because I don't pay for power).

Parents are paying for power, im still a minor, just tryna do some good work for humanity and it looks good on a college transcript too

Thanks for the suggestion for GPU, ill get one of those instead, any tesla cards that are worth it or ATP just get the consumer cards?
