This would be cool for a thin client or HTPC, but its not the Ryzen everyone been waiting for. I don't even think this will ever land in a consumer product.

This is embedded SOC designed for purpose built hardware like signage, test equipment, medical equipment, casino machines, ect.

I don't expect this to be in a dell or even on a motherboard for consumers to buy.

On a 2C/4T Chip with just 3 VEGA Cores??

 

The Interesting part is that:

• Industrial Control & Automation
• Medical Imaging

That seems really not that bad...

 

I wonder if the CPU is "Mil-Spec" and made for that...

It looks like its a very interesting product that could be widely used in the future by all kinds of things...

I'd say it could be a sort of Atom competitor, for NAS boxes (4-8+) hard drives considering the 10gbps network and hardware decoding/encoding features.

 

For those that don't get it yet, it's a CPU that's meant to be soldered onto boards, I'm not sure it will be available in sockets.

 

Probably around 2400g in cpu performance (i guess less graphics) and I think only 16 pci-e lanes are exposed (fewer if you enable the integrated sata controller to get 2 sata ports) and probably the embedded ethernet also takes a bunch of pci-e lanes.

No, this one is for Industry and Aerospace stuff.

Its not for Notebooks I'd say.

This is the kind of stuff ends up in high end cars to drive infotainment centers or big screen speedometer clusters. They just solder all of it on the PCB itself and it doesn't look like modular motherboard.

I want nothing more than increased efficiency honestly, the projected performance uplift is co and all for Zen 2 but if the power envelope gets pushed lower and lower, we'll see such affordable overclocking setups and cheap power supplies will have less of a chance of blowing up.

The v1605 is already very efficient and much more powerful than this, seeing as it is whats being used in the smach z. I'm waiting for 7nm zen 2 with navi for graphics, that's where I think apu will start launching off in many of these embedded machines like we're seeing today. Here's to hoping that zen 2 mobile and embedded apus support ddr4 3000 so they can receive some of the extra bandwidth needed to feed it.

I like it.  I see this not only hitting the NAS/RAID space, but also being used for routers/firewalls if cost isn't too bad and a no-graphics version also makes itself available, or graphics cards become useful for firewall type machine learning.  It was only a few years ago that many consumer router/ap devices were running clocked down 386 chips.
