While they are still very capable, it is true that their efficiency is a fair bit lower than newer parts due to having been built on an older node. However, some careful undervolting should at least partially mitigate that issue--my 5700 XT dropped from 230 to 150W with a 100mV undervolt.

the 580s sip @ 85watts each.

the E5-2690v4 are not too bad at 2016 but still technically old.

Bulk of their GPUs are old 8 1080 Ti's which if bought before the shortage (and crypto boom) were relatively cheap, same with the 580's

I completely disagree there. The 1080 Ti isn't even 5 years old yet, same with the RX 580. The E5-2690 v4 is still a 14 core CPU, so it's definitely no slouch.

I still daily drive Sandy Bridge hardware in my office PC. That's what I'd consider sort of old, though it's also nowhere near unusable or EOL.

So it turns out someone somewhere broke Unraids F@H for Nvidia GPUs... So yay for me lol... If I can't get it working tonight it's going to have to wait till Friday likely.

Also can't throw in the 640 this time round as the boards slots are all used up 😛

Now when did I say they were incapable? The 1080 Ti will be 5 years old soon enough. All I did was call them old and yet somehow people automatically think I mean obsolete useless e-waste 🤣 If that was the case I wouldn't be bashing my head against the table trying to get my stupid 1070 to work...

Estimated currently is 307356. Not sure if I am going to run everything on FAH, I still have a lot running over on Boid doing BOINC.

Feels slow, but at least it's working? Also can't use FAHcontrol to figure out if it's genuinely slow or not 🤣 A problem for another day.

Technically because of the massive generational leaps the RTX cards have made they are old based on performance anyways (remember the whole I want $1000 for my 2080 Ti when the 3070 was announced?). The RTX cards (esp the 3000 series) are the reason why the points got bumped for our badges, so while very capable in numbers and still in gaming they are technically old based on their current siblings abilities. Now one could argue my old gen 6 i5 from intel isn't old because of how lackluster Intel has been in upgrading their cpus till recently and the reason why I went AMD.

Those COVID-19 units must have come a long way. Current estimate is 500k PPD on the 3950X and 4m PPD on the 2080 Ti. I can't remember the 2080 Ti value being that high before.

I've been getting them for the last couple of weeks, and yes they do take that long to complete.

Yeah, I got one on my 10750H, and yes, it does take 2 days to complete. However, the one I got has a base credit of 83500 - so if I ended up getting a WU like yours it'll probably take me 3x as long to finish it. 😅

I have good news everyone, after what has been a hard year for many financially and with the surge in energy prices in many parts of the world we have decided to make all prizes available to all ranks.

This means that as long as you meet the minimum requirements you will be able to win any of the prizes on offer. This is unprecedented for a folding month! The prizes will be raffled with the highest value items going first. As always, you can only win one prize.

Have you seen my discord DM?

For the one I got it sounds like they are trying to now fully understand the virus for future ones more than anything. After all next to reviving the virus of 1912 covid is a living example to help prevent/understand future ones. There's a video out there from Kyle Hill (i think) talking about how a lot of medical progress was made by one kid dying.

https://stats.foldingathome.org/project/16609

The PPD is higher even for me, my guess is a lot of the current work is easier for our gpus, my 5700xt is claiming nearly 1.4M and my 1070 is floating about 1M (my math)
