Meta threatens to pull Facebook and Instagram from Europe if it can't target ads

Meta states in an SEC filing it is considering leaving Europe if it can no longer exchange data from European users with the United States, following the Schrems II decision.

My thoughts

This sounds like a threat that kids do where the threat in of it self actually achieve exactly what you want them to. 
 

I’m sure there are people in Europe that will be sad if this comes to frutuition.

 

I personally applaude FB and say they should stick to their principles

Children are growing up with defective brains and absolutely incompetent. In 10 years there will be catastrophic economic effects when all the kids growing up on social media and furry porn are expected to go to work but simply cannot due to their hilarious amounts of mental health problems. This is also exactly why the anti-work reddit is growing so rapidly. Those people are not old economics who want to change the world but just young people who want to stay at home and browse memes because going outside and talking to humans gives them anxiety. Like I have said so many times before, the EU is the only hope in this world and I pray they put Facebook in their place by simply banning them completely from the content. The EU is known to be passive aggressive so it would be a realistic move.

And nobody will care, at first people will be angry, then another platform will take its place.

Doing that will be the beginning of the end since people will want to be in the same platform to reach their friends and loved ones, was the case with Hi5 and MySpace both which are barely used nowadays.

So if a platform blocks one massive region and another platform swoops in that allows everyone, what do you think will happen to the blocking platform? It will slowly die off.

I haven't used FB nor IG since last October and I feel so relieved. It was just a bunch of ads. I managed to get rid of all ads on Facebook for quite some time but then every third post was an ad.

They all say that kind of stuff and never pull the plug for real...

 

Though I guess there is somewhat of a precedent with them pretty much blocking all "news" outlet in a country before (was it Australia? I forgot), so maybe... we can still hope they do.
