Either a really good or i didnt really pay attention

so ive been thinking of making a minecraft server or any server for other games for me and my friends to play on but i cant since i cant enable port forwarding, but now ive had the idea to use a dns to translate the servers IP into a domain, but i wonder if it would bypass port forwarding

so its either a good ideo or im just desperate

but in my class they said it goes both ways meaning that 1.1.1.1 is translated into example.com and reverse

100% sure you got that wrong.

Computer reaches to a DNS server.

DNS server resolves the domain client sends

client connects to website using IP and hostname combination.

No.

You can set up a VPN you all connect to with e.g. Tailscale.

No thats not how that works.

Why cant you port forward? Is it an issue with access to the modem/router? Does your provider use CGNAT?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

DNS is used both ways, but to translate 1.1.1.1 back into its domain requires the owner of 1.1.1.1 to set its reverse DNS.  My ISP for example lets me request for them to do that as they offer a static public IP address per customer.

DNS has nothing to do with ports however, other than in some cases having an entry to tell clients which port is used for which service on your domain.

Port forwarding always has to be done on the box the public IP address is on, your router if you are not behind CG-NAT, your ISP if you are (but I'm not aware of any that offer this service as they do not guarantee you are shared on the same public IP address all the time).

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Often, performing a factory reset will work to set an ISP provided router back to it's defaults. Of course, this will wipe all settings on the router but this is the path you should take - getting access to "expert mode".

What I mean is, routers can usually be reset by pushing a recessed button. Look up the instructions for your model. Again, note this will wipe all previous custom settings.
