Well mining 600 hours for a $30 game is not efficient if you think about it.

 

Also, some cards can fail in that time period.

It is a value consideration people have to work out for their individual circumstances. You can't say it is always good or always bad. 600 hours of doing something in the background when you're not using it is minimal effort. If you have low enough energy costs, even better.

I have never mined out of lack of interest... I might try this out though why not my electricity is free any ways and it says this thing likes fast VRAM... well suppose you can't get any faster than with HBM2 right? lol.

 

Grab myself rocket league and wolfenstein just for fun... the fact you get the game on Steam is appealing.

 

I'll update later how the experience with it goes.

You know...I can see some of the legitimacy of something like this. The company would make money by mining with your card. But is that all they're doing and how would you know? I's kind of like when a long time ago I tried out a few of those apps to get gift cards using those scam apps that make you download a bunch of games and get credits. I used a burner phone, created a fake account, and would only participate on public wifi. After about 3 hours I was about half way to a $10 gift card so that's just above $3/hour... I ended up having to skip the "big" rewards because they required a valid credit card in order to "activate" (i.e. signing up for auto renewing "services"...make sure you remember to cancel them). I did receive a lot of spam in my Gmail email within a few days as well. I would imagine somewhere out in the marketing world is my fake profile being bought and sold to this day.

 

Call me paranoid but the chances I would agree to let someone "borrow" my personal computer in any way (which I do more than just gaming on) for anything? A snowball would have a better chance to survive in hell.

 

Now for those that are okay with downloading that company's software and assuming any sort of risk. Sounds like it would be a good deal for them.

Meh that's not true, if you read all the comments most are negative or skeptical. What we all wonder is - is mining faster when you do it this way, instead of if you mined a normal cryptocurrency to buy a game with it. It's definitely easier to do for an average user.

I know a competing system to obtain games "for free". It utilizes your network interface instead of the GPU, and the ETA is usually lower, although that depends on your internet connection.

 

 

 

 

 

 

But yeah, this is like "getting stuff for free" by lending your car to someone else: in the end it depends on how it compares to just renting it out, how easy it is for you to "rent it out" through this service compared to on your own, and how much you want the "reward" vs. just getting something you can spend as you see fit. It reminds me a bit to those bank deposits that give you a cooking pot or a tablet with your deposit, instead of giving you its monetary value through interest rates. Come to think about it, it's actually pretty much the same.

Generally the whole thread is kind of eh, might be interesting to experiment with but not really ever worth it. 

 

This is a tech community, people are gonna play with new software no matter how dumb it might be.

Some people are curious about the profits so they'd like to try it, I see nothing wrong with that.

What you don't factor in here - it depends on how low prices they get when buying those game keys in bulk orders. If it's like 50% of the retail price then it isn't exactly a bad deal to either the company and the end-user, cause in the end he gets the game cheaper than he'd potentially pay for it.

A week for 10 games? Hell I could afford a game an hr. On top of that you would be better off just mining yourself and converting the coins to currency. 

 

Looking at a single 1070 averaged mining Etherium = $4.88/day  or $3.91(after electricity cost).  So $3.91 x 30 = $117.3/month.   So for you could basically afford 2 games a month vs 1 if you did it all yourself and cashed out.

The 512mb has nothing to do with it, mining something myself i get some decent MHashes but with this crap miner software from GamesFromSpace i get 10x less its pointless on an nvidia card.  You can do regular mining on 970, not great MH per watt but still decent.

Agree, an individual just better off mining and cashing out the coins themselves then this platform that is offering games.
