Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

so im still waiting on my motor, but got the car back and im stripping my engine bay to get it ready for paint. torque converter is still in. to not risk it falling out while being transported to the shop, i remove it and the smallest shaft comes mostly out with it. is this normal? i have no idea about transmissions. only motors. its a ford aod/aode trans. to me this doesnt seem right at all

You can just use a little metal tab with a hole drilled in it to retain the TC by bolting the tab to the bell housing so it pushes against the TC.

https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Transmission-Converter-Galvanized-Retainer/dp/B07DNHYX6G

they look like that but you can DIY pretty easily from junk laying around usually.

Story time:

I came across a 2010's Camero ZL1 1LE in a parking lot with darker than 70% tint all around (something "illegal" in NY and enforced by inspections) as well as no front license plate. I went into the store to get what I needed and came out to see the owner getting in. This was a few months back, so social distancing was still a very big thing, but I had only parked across from him so I yelled out nice car and "How do you get away with (all of that)?"

He said "You wanna know the truth? I'm a cop."

And after seeing my reaction, he laughed and said that he still has the tint removed and reapplied before every inspection to "bypass" the enforcement (as I dont believe it's illegal for tint shops to apply any amount if tint to a vehicle regardless of classification). AS for the Front license plate, they tend to be stricter about it, but "as long as you're not doing anything stupid or give us any other reason to pull you over, we probably wont. Unless it's a state trooper, then I cant guarantee anything".

Fun fact I installed my license plate using a Sto N Sho bracket assembly  which allows me to quickly remove and attach my bumper, so I leave my license plate in the car just in case; I can quickly snap it back on if anyone gives me trouble and chalk it up to "I forgot to put it back on after a day at the track (I've only gone to the drag strip once ever lol) I'm very sorry officer". https://stonsho.com/ if she hasnt already mounted one permanently, they make ones specific for certain vehicles as well as "universal ones" too. Or you could just put it in the windshield.

welp, about to send it off to paint the bay. stripped everything im willing to strip which is a hell of alot. may do the headlight harness but i feel that can be moved in maybe 5 mins max and painted. refuse to do anything to the steering rack and brake booster. not touchin brake lines. cant do anything about harness next to booster. thats all dash wiring. shouldnt have an issue anywhere else tho. actually impressed how clean this bay is with only mildish surface rust where the battery tray was. just lots of 30 year old grime and dirt....

I’d love an A8. Not with my long commute and knowing how they much work they can be when they break tho (and how expensive parts are). :(

Idk you tell me. I’m used to anything old that has a German badge on it being awfully unreliable

It depends how much of the car you want to work. Will it start and drive everyday? Probably. Will everything in the car work that should work...probably not.

It's because they haven't been properly looked after. Toyota are the best at making beater cars IMO.

that's true. Toyota's are also more simple. But it's pay to play I guess.

I've been thinking about finding/getting a VW Touraeg with the 3.0L diesel recently. It'd be pretty efficient for my long commute, it's nice inside, + I could tow smaller things if I needed (like my Miata lol) and such.

Bit more money than like finding an old lexus but a lot more useful as far as daily drivers go... just more expensive to maintain. but the core parts of them (engine/drivetrain) seem pretty solid.

also since diesel gate happened something like that will never exist here again in the US so I feel like might as well experience it whilst I can.

My TransAm rev's pretty high for a SBC.  Its nothing new, but most people don't build a 350 and decided to spin it to 7k+.

But this 3rd gen Camaro takes the cake.  I have admired it for years.

Its a destroked LS7 out of a Vette. 8500rpm and 700hp+.

And. It. Sounds. Glorious!

I've always wondered what a higher revving LS would sound (being the LS7 the one that revs the most out of the factory IIRC, at *just* 7000) and that is a great example.

I tip my hat to you for the fact that you're also spinning your SBC to 7k+.

welp, on October 14th I finally after a year of actually driving (and trying) to get my license I did it, I passed my road test.
Officially I got it on the 15th but eh whatever because that's when I was able to get in and go do the payment portion of the licensing.

So now the 2003 Saab 9-3 Linear can stop sitting and actually get to be a daily driver lmao
