Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I've thought about a different wheel, but there has always been something higher priority. Currently needs a bit of dent removal, then new tires & brake pads, then halo seat + cage + add lightness, then fenders + 295 or 315s + purple crack. The wagon wheel is ugly but it does steer the car, replacement will be something with a quick release.

Oh you going with a quick release. Makes sense, it's a race car anyway ?

Just run a synthetic oil of your choice and if brakes need to be done, brakes need to be done. Look at the pads or trust your mechanic to look at them for u

I think the wheels turned out real nice, I painted them. What do you think? It's my first car, I've had it for about two to three years now. Full audio system, with two 12inch subs. All I want now are fog lights and window tint. And she's getting new tires Thursday so that'll be fun. I got the wheels from a junkyard, that's why I painted them. Really good condition, except for the door :(, I'm about to hit 102k miles

Another built motor update:

IMG_1684.thumb.jpg.3545170c4964fc3d0b5829d802dd9502.jpg

Got my Boundary Stage 2 billet oil pump installed, rear main seal, modified MBSP (more on that), oil pickup tube and oil pan installed!

It took me more tries than I'd like to admit, simply due to dumb mistakes I made. Just goes to show you can't rush these things. First time around I noticed the oil pan baffle (MBSP) was not sitting flat on the main caps, didn't do anything about until I read up after the whole installation that because I am using ARP main studs the baffle interferes with the studs (since they protrude higher than the OE main bolts). So I took it apart, cleaned up the RTV and drilled/cut the MBSP to clear the main studs. Thought I was all good, bottom end is finished up! Then I woke up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night and remembered the OIL PICKUP TUBE sitting on the table. So then I had to take it all apart AGAIN and install that. Third time's a charm I suppose. But it's all good now, the bottom end is wrapped up, waiting on a few more parts before I install the cylinder head.

I ordered an ATI damper and new crank hardware (almost $600!) that should be here Monday, along with new head alignment pins I got from the local Mazda dealer. I am going to send the head to the machine shop (again) to have them install Volvo B18/B20 valve springs to better suit my forced induction application, also waiting on those in the mail. I would've had them install the springs when I got the head rebuilt but they were very hard to source. I have my Cometic head gasket and ARP head studs sitting on my desk right now so at this point I'm just waiting on parts as usual. Other than that just need to order the Gates water pump and the long block will be pretty much finished!

Still a lot of things to get of course, $800 clutch and flywheel, turbo manifold kit, EFR turbo, etc. I'm already almost $3,200 into the motor but still not even halfway of what the total cost for my 300-350whp build will be. Just the built transmission is almost $2,000 and the ECU alone is over $1,000. But I've been working and working for this so I'll eventually have it all ready to make some power, just have to be patient. :D

On another sleep deprived note, GF and I just got back from vacation in Portland. Checked out of Hotel at 11 this morning, its 12:20 the following morning and we’re home. I just ordered some Morimoto 2stroke gen 2 LED headlight bulbs. The final hour and a half leg of the trip was on the rural highway with minimal street lights and it had just rained before we got on the road and it was night. Couldn’t. See. Shit. The tahoe has old ass dim halogen bulbs in the low beams right now and I have no idea how old they are. Must be very old though. High beams work pretty good bit even with the fogs on too I was having a hell of a time.

The 2stroke gen 2 bulbs are DOT certified so it shouldn’t glare or cause patterning issues in the reflector housings.

The DD SL1 are a better bulb, by a bit. Any of those bulbs tend to make some glare in reflector housings, and if you look at the actual lumen output vs the brightest halogens you can run (usually high beam bulbs) they're not as bright.
