[RUMOUR] AMD's Zen CPU rumoured to compete with high end intel for $300

A rumour posted by Tweaktown sourced from reddit states that we could see AMD'z new CPU pack a whopping 8-core / 16 threads 

 

 

 

 

TweakTown then went on to say that back in August the CPU was hitting around 3.8Ghz, now we're seeing results of 4.2Ghz overclocked and 5Ghz using LN2

There's literally zero chance that AMD will launch something that competes with a 6900k for $300. AMD has always priced their CPUs competitively. So if it performs like a 6900k, then it will be priced like a 6900k (maybe 10% less).

If they did though it wouldn't surprise me. It woyld make it hard for many system builders to pick intel.

Either it will not compete with high end intel or it will not be 300 bucks AMD can't afford to lower profit margins since intel can just slash prices to force them out.

I'd say... 16% less for Haswell performance (so a slightly weakish 5960X)

Yes, it would be nice for consumers if they did, but they won't. They never have and severe price cuts will hurt AMD more than it helps them. If AMD sells a 6900k equivalent for $300, then Intel will drop prices and AMD will be in the same position but now making less money on each sale.

there is no-way that AMD could beat a 6900K with a $300 CPU

this is what normal people would call "Fanboy Hype-isum"

it's a condition where people get defensive of a manufacturer or person and will constently try and make people believe that it's better than it really is.

please, if this keeps happening Zen will fail because of over-hype, and if you love AMD you know that this is wrong and will hurt the sales and adoption of the processes

 

this is what happens to products that are over-hyped

There is no source for this on the internet at all. In fact, if you look up "Zen LN2" it pulls up this article, and a few websites that quoted this article as the source. If anyone can provide that source, i'd be more inclined to believe this, but so far, none of it adds up.

So what is the new news?

 

It was already revealed they had 8 core chips, ddr4, and pcie 3.0.

All of that tech has already been out on other amd platforms like fm2+ and bristol ridge.

 

You should have focused more about the other facts then the cost, like the bios chip being on the cpu die, and that it is rumored to take 30 minutes to clear it, and overclocking will have to be done through the OS (amd overdrive).

 

It will be good if that gets them to update amd overdrive, they haven't changed it for years.

It's not even 1%, lol. That's totally margin of error during tests. From what we've seen so far (including Patrick's best friend's personal Geekbench testing) that clock for clock, not a single thing has changed between Kaby and Skylake as far as IPC is concerned. 1% would be best case scenario in a perfect world, but I still say that's margin of error.

literally 100% of the improvements are thanks to the higher stock clocks , i mean compare pascal to maxwell and you see the same , pascal is just maxwell at 2ghz
