Frank Azor teased that there was going to be something announced.

 

Turns out it was a teaser for an announcement that there will be an announcement on the 28th Oct for RDNA 2 .

 

AMD loves to disappoint it seems.

 

I guess all those comments about AMDs marketing department being terrible are true lol.

We'll see how this goes. I will reserve judgement - it's always possible for a massive generational improvement (especially if RDNA2 is actually a second generation, rather than simply "Big Navi").

it is suppose to be a full gen plus a die that has 80CU over the 40CU of the 5700xt

No no ..u misunderstand. the disappointment is in there ability to announce something lol. A tease for an announcement of an announcement is only going to disappoint.

 

I 'hope' their GPUs can compete i really do, even if they cant outright beat a 3080 or get close to a 3090, atleast they can compete in price and drive Nvidia back down to normal pricing.

In terms of outcome i'd be disappointment only if they can only manage 3070 performance. Anything above that is good but ideally they'd have a 3080 killer to force Nvidais hand and release their 3080ti.

They'll have to hurry if they want to stick true to the launching gpu's before the consoles launch promise. The xbox is supposed to come out 2 ish weeks after the rdna2 announcement.

Im happy they did it like this.  Makes it easier to set a timeline for upgrading now and the little teaser gives us just enough to not forget about them during the current Nvidia hype..  Was worried about buying a 3080 then having AMD potentially drop a competing product soon after but also didnt want to hold off for an undetermined mount of time then regret not pulling the trigger mid september.   A month.  I can wait another month...or 2

Zen3 will be anything but disappointing. Zen in general has been awesome and each improvement has been great.

 

For RDNA2? Hard to say. I'm sure they'll be very competitive on the low and mid range, as they always are. an 80CU big boy would be quite interesting, especially with a new generation of the arch (which should have it's own improvements). Can it touch RTX 3000? We'll see soon.

Some discussion i've seen over a 80CU Biggest Navi is that it may simply be less inviting for AMD to even release such a GPU, especially to the consumer market.

They can make multiple smaller GPUs out of that massive die which would give them greater profits.

 

That said, some people have worked out that with possible % increases in all areas of improvement and the massive 80CU size, it could easily match a 3090 and be cheaper.

 

here's hoping ..but not expecting.

Whatever is left in stock will almost certainly be sold at discount by the sales vendors like NewEgg, etc. Especially if it ends up sitting on a warehouse shelf for too long.
