'Red Dead Redemption 2' File Size Requires Over 100 GB

Speed Weed

With 4k Textures and other things I can see it easily. If this is just the 1080p version then I wonder how big the 4k version will be.

It better be a damn good game at that size. My PS4 only has a 500GB HDD.

The more data means more data that can contain bugs.

It's called sarcasm...obviously it means you'll need a 50GB day one patch just to launch the game xD

Unless you don't have that kind of connection XD.

It's usually not the people who don't have big datalines that are having issues and most of the time it's not even their fault because providers do not "provide' enough bandwith to those places.

If they have 10 MBPS it would take 1 Day 1 Hour 3 Minutes to download the game.

Not to mention how long it will take to install on the ps4 XD

Is there no option of getting a hard copy that installs from that? I mean 105gb is alot is idk how many disks that would take but I would think that would solve alot of the issues for console gamers. I doubt they would ever do that for pc though.

With that many gigabytes it better work day one with no patches...

Yeah no this is actually the day one patch. The actual game is only 32KB.

Why did you come to this world?

It's something that's owed more than expected. They better not screw up my at least one day long download when I have to launch the game

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

It would take 5 blue Ray disks

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Its unreasonable to expect zero issues on a game that large.

and holy shit games these days are about to take more than 100GB.

Well I don't have too many of those...

From the last games I got, most of them are just around 50GB or so, that includes but is not limited to Spider-Man, God of War, Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4), Dragon Quest XI...

Seems like Texture Compression isn't "in" anymore these days...

No, a BD can easily fit 50GB, wich is the Standard today.

But there also seem to be 100GB Discs:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray#BDXL

But I do not know if the Console Drives are compatible with that. I'd say they are not. So 2 Discs, maybe 3.

GTA IV was ~15 GB iirc, and GTA V was like 65 GB.  It's not at all surprising we're up to this size by now and I'm not too concerned about the size.  It's not like you're going to need to keep 10+ games of this size installed at all times.  Personally I'm more interested in just seeing it exist this time.  I kept hearing about the last one but it never materialized.  Let's hope this isn't a repeat...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

actually hold up, how much of it are model asset files? I imagine all the textures and shader maps (and possibly prerendered cutscenes?) might contribute a lot... ._.

I would assume atleast half, this game probably has a lot of sound assets too.

Honestly, I don't see a problem with this, as long as it's actually meaningful amount of good content and not just bad compression of audio and video files, e.g. cutscenes. Let's talk open world, 4K textures, ridiculous amount of objects, etc etc, where is the problem? I don't blame devs not going cheap just because it will take some time to download. I'm sorry 'straya but this one is on your government and companies.

We are getting much faster connections in general and storage is becoming very, very cheap, so why should content not increase, again, as long as it's justified?

I wouldn't consider it a problem if the game was released on PC (although that's a little selfish). The real problem is most people buy a regular PS4 with a 500GB hard drive, and if game sizes keep increasing you'll basically need one hard drive per game. I guess the DLC's will take up more space.

I really wouldn't mind having the game split across multiple discs.

That is not really a good argument. Hell 1TB PS4 that I have was not that much more than 500 GB, and you can even buy 8TB external drives (ex-coworker has one). Best to not increase sizes because people bought the smallest version. It's like saying no game should use any decent size since we have 120GB SSDs and yes, there are people with only those in the system.

I used to have 8.5GB MGS2 on my only 40 GB drive 15+ years ago. I managed. It's not impossible.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

We're talking about consoles so it's a mainstream audience who are less likely to invest that much on storage. When I think of myself 10-15 years ago getting new games only for my birthday and for Christmas, it would have been hard to ask my parents for extra storage.
