4K Editing Intel Rig - So many conflicting recommendations!!

Budget (including currency): $2500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I make YouTube videos, so this PC will be used for editing and rendering videos in 4K. I primarily use Davinci Resolve Studio, Photoshop, and After Effects. Gaming is secondary, but I do plan on playing Helldivers, Crusader Kings, Skyrim, etc.. not too worried about gaming.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm not able to salvage any parts from my current PC (it's a crappy Alienware with tons of OEM parts). I have a huge 4K 120hz monitor. No extra peripherals needed afaik. So this is the list I'm currently considering:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K 3.4 GHz 20-Core Processor
  • AIO: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • MOBO: MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
  • MEMORY: Crucial Pro 96 GB (2 x 48 GB) DDR5-5600 CL46
  • STORAGE: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive [I do have an external HDD and SATA that I plug in via USB, and one internal SATA as well)
  • GPU: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB Video Card
  • PSU: Corsair RM1000e (2023) 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  • CASE: Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW ATX Full Tower Case

I've been told I need to go with Intel > AMD for better content creation features. I'm also worried about cooling an i9-13900K with just an AIO (no interest in custom loop), so I'm hoping the i7-14700K will be coolable and still perform at the level I need? Lastly, I'm unsure if 16 GB of VRAM is overboard or not enough for my purposes. Thanks for any help/recs!

a good 360mm aio will cooler either fine, i recommend the LS series from deepcool. the liquid freezer works fine too just doesn't look as good imo

and grab ddr5 6000mhz CL30, a good kit like the T-Force vulcan or Corsair vengeance will work great, both have RGB variants if thats your thing

Not bad but if you're going Intel I'd get I'd get lower latency ram and a 420 rad instead of 360

16GB should be enough, depending on how large your workloads are

For davinci resolve Intel are still the best (if we disregard HEDT for this, though it is an option, but only slightly above)

Argb version also has the rgb pump and definitely better temps. LS might be a bit cheaper but that shouldn't be a problem for this budget

The big feature on intel for video editing is hardware decoding of h.265 10 bit 422 footage. If your not using this footage the advantage of using intel goes way down. but overall the 14700k is a pretty good performer. All the other codecs like h.264 8 bit 420 can be decoded on your nvidia GPU, so the iGPU won't be used there. Look at puget for more exact numbers.

Thanks for the memory rec. Is the 7000D Airflow bad? I'm pretty set on getting a Full Tower size case just so I never have any size hassles, and have plenty of room for cable management and case fans.

Thank you much, this is so helpful! Is there an issue going with a Full Tower case on my build? I'm worried that I won't be able to fit all the case fans and cable management in a Mid-ATX.

the lian Li lancool III is definitely not a mid atx, it supports a 420mm rad and is 65L large

You'll have the space in the Lancool III

It doesn't include many fans for it's price, and they're not great ones afaik. Temps also aren't great compared to the Lancool III

The 7000D Airflow is fine, but it is large and more expensive than necessary.

Given that storage is now mostly on the motherboard the only issues related to size are radiators and GPU. A mid-size box should offer more than enough room for two radiators and a long GPU.

Cabling is also being reduced in current builds. No storage cables and just a single cable to the GPU for Nvidia.
