More people than you might think use Bing

bing is great, i use it everyday!  great for my 'searches' and the 'results' are fantastic.

I remember the first time someone suggested Bing! for finding an obscure video for a project. And someone chimed in a suggestion to use Bing. That was a conversation that went sideways really quickly.

I accidentally use it when I install Mozilla on fresh PCs and use the search bar for drivers and what not. Then I change that setting and completely remove it as a option.

Hi

WHAT ????? Why do people hate finding things ??

I mean you can find what you need faster by using Google. I think it's used by those who don't know how to change their default browser and search engine. Going full Google (YT , keep , chrome , android , translate , gmail , calendar , photos , maps ... ) is easier .

And to be clear , I don't hate MS or their services, in fact i like them , I use office , one note , windows , cortana(on pc) , and their email service but at the end , most of the times , Google do it better

Looking at Ars Technica comments, some people mentioned that they prefer the video search functionality than Google fr searching content. Where they say that Google basically returns or favors YouTube, while Bing gives you content everywhere else.

let me guess, they probably use it to search for chrome or firefox download upon fresh installs

And since win10 runs so perfectly stable that they never have to reinstall. That's why they get so high market share. All part of the plan.

I use bing, only because I get $10 in amazon gift cards per month. I do random searches per day, do their random challenges, then I go back to using Chrome once I max out my monthly searches, lol.

May not sound like much, but it's a nice way to save up money for random PC purchases.

So today I reinstalled Windows 10 and I fired up Edge to search for Firefox.

The top result was "Edge is the recommended browser for Windows 10" followed by 3 adverts for MS products, in a search where the term was literally "Mozilla Firefox" Mozilla's Firefox website came in at number 5.

Fucking great job Bing, that's why no one uses you.

This could be:

1. An Edge Browser specific issue, or

2. An issue with what they are marketing towards you

Eg - my results, via Chrome and Bing.com:

FF_Bing_Chrome.png.042a8f47f0a876f7e28b0dfb202bfa1d.png

As we can see, the first two ads are FF, and the next ad is probably the same Edge ad you got.

However, after ads, pretty much all the results are FF related:

FF_Bing_Chrome_2.png.f733bc4c3f5828edd87e346119cad0d2.png

The first actual result being the official FF homepage.

Edge is fucked right now on my computer (Opens then immediately closes), so I cannot compare Chrome vs Edge w/ Bing.com. I can tell you that using IE11 on the same computer, gave me identical results as what you see above in Chrome.

Why are there different percentages in the two photos?

Canada at both 16% and 17%.

UK at both 26% and 23%.

Germany at 12% and 13%.

Different dates, my bad, I didn't read the full post.

Also why the hell did they drop Portugal from Europe's stats? It's bad enough that Eastern Europe is not there, but what's up with Portugal? And is there a difference between Bing Network and Bing?

I think it has to do with explanation number 2.

I have had the same thing happen to me (clean install, opened edge to download Firefox, and had to scroll down quite a bit to find a legitimate link) but when I tried it just now it showed results similar to yours.

Might be a Russian roulette style of thing. If Mozilla hasn't bought enough ads recently then the users will be served with a lot of ads for MS products instead. If they have then legitimate links will be at the top.

On topic: as a lot of people have already said, a lot of this is probably because Microsoft has very aggressively pushed Bing. I mean, whenever you search for something in the start menu in Windows 10 it contacts Bing. Do they count those as well? In Windows 10S they have actually blocked the ability to change the search engine, so you have to use Bing. Changing search engine in Edge seems needlessly difficult so a lot of tech-illiterate people can probably not even figure it out.

Well, let's be honest: it's like Tumblr in that it's very useful for finding porn.

Lucky you, I tried once in Bing and the results were bad. Apparently porn search is not allowed in my reigon, but Google works just fine if I used it.

I wonder how many of those searches came from gov and military computers considering they are all set by default to use bing, and you can't change it.

Khm, it thrown in the towel when it have seen that i have more than one drive in my PC... It refused to upgrade to the next version of w10 until i pulled out all my other HDD/SSD. Top it off it just reverted everything to default. This was the last straw and i gone back to 7 and i will never look back. I have better things to do than put up with their incompetence.

Bing is not bad at all, Edge is also much better than that worthless memoryhog called Chrome.

The only reason I ever use bing.... Is when I forget to switch it to Google on a new windows install.

Though since Cortana technically uses only Bing, I'm assuming that those numbers are from people who use Cortana and not Edge + Bing.

I think that's where a large portion of the stat is coming from - not people using Bing in their web browser, but from people using the Start search, who haven't disabled including web results. It's a fake propaganda stat from Microsoft.

Pretty sure they are, Also didn't Apple change Siri to use Bing?
Not sure if it's still like that but that could also bolster the results.

Nope. Siri used Bing from the beginning. Most search engines that don't use Google will use Bing, including virtual "assistants" and site specific searches.
