Intel Core i9-10900K Stressed, Package Power Reads 235W, Temperatures 93°C

A stock Intel Core i9-10900K 10-core processor was subjected to FPU stress by Chinese PC enthusiast @WolStame. The power and temperature values of the processor are inside HEDT territory. With a Furmark GPU stress running on the side, under AIDA64 FPU stress, the i9-10900K measured a package power draw of up to 235.17 W, as measured using HWInfo64. The CPU package temperature shot up to 93 °C. A 240 mm AIO liquid CPU cooling solution was used in the feat. Interestingly, the processor is able to sustain clock speeds of 4.77 GHz, which is close to the advertised 4.80 GHz all-core turbo boost frequency, called for by the multi-core FPU stress.

To show that the values weren't obtained in a few seconds of test, the AIDA64 Stability Test window keeps a timestamp log and displays time elapsed into the stress. In this particular case, the all-core stress has been running for close to 48 minutes; and yet the processor is keeping up with its advertised all-core boost speed, making this an impressive feat.

Oh wow. 93C at stock on 240mm aio? Dang, Intel better re-call them back. I remember Intel said they will do something about thermal performance on the 10th gen series by reducing the ihs height? Is this a lie?

Wow and I thought I would need a fire extinguisher for an AMD cpu now you have to buy 2.

Let's be careful not to assume all AIO's are equal. what kind of AIO are we talking about here? If we are talking awful entry level AIO's like the ML240 from Cooler Master, then this is to be expected given that thing performs worse than high end air coolers. Also, this isn't a realistic representation of real world thermals. The 9900K got just as hot under the same loads with less cores. If we want to use unrealistic thermal loads as a measure of how good a processor is, let's hit all processors with some Linpack MKL and get our marshmallows ready.

 

I am curious to see what kind of voltage this thing was asking for, and whether or not current limitations were removed. If it's pulling 235W with stock current limits imposed, that's pretty gnarly, lol.

Bad timing as the summer is coming so heating up even more. If Intel would release it in the winter, it would have been a good purchase.

Though unsurprising outcome really. These CPU's come overclocked to the very limit, far past the sweet spot for the sake of being best of the best for gaming which is Intel's shtick currently (AMD's is multi-threaded productivity) etc).

It reminds me of the "Hot" i9 9900k.

When I got one and clocked it up to 5ghz all cores it was cooler than my stock i7 6700k and i7 8700k.

I will reserve judgment until it is tested by someone I trust.

So basically it's the new FX 9590/Pentium D... At least unlike those CPUs it'll perform well relative to existing CPUs.

The people who are yelling how "hot" 9900K runs and how this CPU is going to be hot as hell as well, please bear in mind the cpu clock this thing is running at.

 

4.8Ghz, on 10 cores 20 threads and the "hot" 9900K are usually being overclocked to 5Ghz. 

 

Try running this at amd's usual 4.2 - 4.3ghz clock speed and we'll see the temp.

 

By all means, I'm not an intel fanboy. I recommend AMD for most people. But it's important to recognize why the CPU runs hot as hell

my bet was 185w with the better contact and IHS, they went ALL THE WAY with the 10900k. I never thought the 9900k was that hot, but i'm not touching the 10900k regardless of the gaming performance, (+5%, maybe even slower than zen 3?), final straw to switch to amd for me.

I'd imagine that if I put 235 Watts through my 3900X it would also be super toasty.

Can already do that with a 7700k, just gotta crank my fans to full blast. Granted, nine Noctua 3000rpm fans sound like a vacuum cleaner, but it does keep the room reasonably warm.
