Time to upgrade, I would appreciate some recommendations

Hi everyone, I'm looking to build a new PC and whilst I've spent a lot of time on NZPartpicker and talking to stores, I'm struggling to come up with a build I like that fits within my budget and I was hoping someone here could assist.

Budget: $3500 - 4400 New Zealand Dollars

Country: New Zealand

Games: Microsoft Flight Simulator, Halo, Skyrim and to hopefully be future proof for anything coming in the next 5-7 years as I don't upgrade often.

Other activities: Blender, Video Editing, I want the PC to be good enough to handle intense Handbrake crunching as my NAS isn't the biggest so I always spend time compressing videos. I'd like to do some streaming as well.

Other details: Functionality comes first of course but I'd like it to look nice as well if possible. I'm pretty set on a 4080 super. I'm not 100% on the CPU. My friends at NZASimulations state that MSFS doesn't play nice with the 7800X and to pick up the 14700K and I've never been overly knowledgeable about CPU coolers or motherboards, I would like to bring over some of my storage into the new build and this will be connected to two 4K monitors.

Here's what I have so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Krispkiwi/saved/QTsKpg, this has served me well but the 1070 and 6700K are showing their age with Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Here's the potential Intel build I have: https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/user/Krispkiwi/saved/6FqVBm and AMD build: https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/user/Krispkiwi/saved/FFTVBm

the intel build looks perfect, only thing i would change is get a 14700kf to ditch the igpu unless you need it, and lower latency ram, like 30 or 32 but even then its not going to matter much.

Do you see anywhere I could potentially save money and or improve the looks at all? I've also found this $4000 target build which looks to be similar but a few hundred cheaper https://pyronic.al/

A better look at those components.

Thanks for the recommendations 🙂 I just noticed the CPU performance core clock selected here states 2.1GHZ compared to the 3.4 GHz, is this problematic at all?

Not at all, not to mention it will help when using that 14 phase board you selected.

Does it just mean the base clock is lower but it can still boost up to being close to if not as powerful as the standard 14700s? I honestly don't know much about motherboards, I just need one with a good number of connections for drives, USB ports etc. Is the one I've selected good?

Also the shop is insisting I should go with Inno3D graphics cards as they say they have a lower return rate per 300 cards. I've never heard of this brand before.

The board you selected will struggle with that unlocked 14 gen i7. That cpu can be a heat producing power hog.

Here's a review of the locked 12 gen i7 vs the unlocked 12 gen i7 to give you a rough idea of locked vs unlocked.

In MS SF the 7800X3D performs better than any Intel and consumes a lot less power and produces less heat.

Would the CPU cooler be enough for the heat? if this board isn't up for the challenge, do you have a recommendation of a board that is?

Is the 8 cores not an issue though since with the background apps that MSFS mods rely on + applications and streaming on top of that?

Look at the programs the OP plans on using.

That board will work fine with the locked version of that cpu.

Right now with my 6700K i never overclocked it either, well I did some testing but I got tired of the random blue screens so I don't mind if I can't overclock it. In case I do choose to spend a little more to get the K, what's the next best board?

This was the card the store was recommending: INNO3D GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER X3, never heard of the brand before so I'm not sure if the store is just trying to clear stock or if its actually good.

Overclocking is an enthusiast thing only with these newer cpu's. The Intel cpu's are boosted so high out of the box that 13 and 14 gen i9 owners are having to undervolt just to run stable.
