Check Firewall, Virus and ransomware detection software on you computer.   I had an issue early on where the F@H client would crash the system compressing finished work for sending back to F@H it was BitDefender causing the issue.  Needed to add F@H as an exception to ransomware threat detection.

i mean, they arn't known for their speedy updates afaik. we've been on the V7 client for atleast as long as i have been folding. and i started in 2015!

:I  Don't remind me.

Here a hint, I started folding right when that client came out.  So, somewhere back in 2011.

For ya that wonder why I don't have a lot of points in LTT.  I formerly folded for these other teams.

Need to get my lazy butt and get my 2nd rig up but other in life stuff keeps occuring.

Go home FAH, you're drunk. A 2060 doesn't produce 3.9M PPD.

Bah, I had another bad day or so. Yesterday the AP dropped again, someone moved the fan that was cooling it and it overheated. Then after I get that all sorted I come home from work to find that my Titan V rig had the FaH core crash and hadn't been folding for 11 hours.

oof. won't be able to get more power for folding, found a 1440p 144Hz monitor in my price range, so i will be getting that instead (it was also reasonably well reviewed by hardware unboxed, although i still need to look at more)

Which monitor?  I've been thinking I might start my next gaming build early with something like that (since I'm already running 2k, just on a much slower and more graphic design oriented IPS).

I think it took a huge back seat when sony dropped their end of support for the playstation client. I mean it was a pretty poorly design anyways since you couldn't hook it to a normal folding account as it was. And I'm sure the computing power they were getting from it wasn't worth the time let alone the fact that they probably had to work twice as hard to cut projects into small enough chunks to be able to get them to finish on something so weak compared to today's computer hardware.

Interestingly enough though…if you look at today's flagship smart phones, they outperform or pace most computer CPUs from just a year or two ago.

The Apple A13 chip for example, comes right around the i7 9700K in single thread performance, though somewhere around an i7 3770K for multithreaded performance.

On the graphics side though, that's super hard to compare for compute, but while much more efficient, it is definitely likely to fall behind.  To give us some rough ideas though:

Spoiler because I got carried away

Spoiler

Here's some 3DMark scores for common desktop cards.

intel graphics - 1940

Ryzen 5 2400G APU - 3692 (4146 OC'd)

RX580 -  4745

RTX2060 - 8817

gtx1080 - 19711

RTX2080TI - 32124

Now here's some Geekbench graphic compute scores (keep in mind all user submitted):

Older intel graphics - 6659

Honor 9 - 9495

Galaxy S9+ - 9k-10k

Galaxy S10+ - 10543

Radeon 5770 - 10594

Note 10+5G - 11127

Apple A10 - 13534

Apple A11 - 15795

newer intel graphics - 14214-20326

Apple A12 - 21802 (iPhone X)

Geforce 940 - 27241

Apple A13 - 29k-31k (iPhone 11)

Apple A10X - 31237 (iPad Pro)

Apple A12X - 43892  (iPad Pro)

Theory A13X - 62k (likely in any new ipad Pros, my guess at rough performance)

GTX950 - 54k-72k

RX560 - 67k

GTX960 - 76k-80k

RX570 - 118k-120k

GTX1060 - 120k-125k

RX580 - 121k-147k

Vega56 - 134k-135k

Radeon VII - 140k-149k

GTX1070 - 149636

5700 - 149k-154k

5700XT - 168k-172k

GTX1080 - 171k

5700XT 50th - 191025 (listed as eGPU on Mac mini)

Vega64 - 193k-195k

RTX2060 - 225k-230k

2070Super - 269k-280k

RTX2080TI - 330k-351k

5700XT - 353759 (overclock run on LN2?…unless the identification is wrong and this is the next step up Navi card hiding in plain sight)

So, phone GPUs wouldn't be great, but wouldn't be useless if they are designed to keep running (like the A12 and A13 are, but the A10 and A11 had thermal issues for sustained runs).  Keep in mind the iPhone A series GPU tends to be stronger than most other phones.  It will be interesting to see how the first RDNA phone chip does once that hits.  One of the interesting things though, which is pretty close to impossible to analyze for these purposes, are the new machine learning cores, and how those can play into massively branched workloads like this.  That could™ help equalize things a fair amount.  I would suggest then that it is a rather LARGE amount of folding power out there in phones, even if the app were written to only allow itself to run while plugged in (because who wants to use all their battery in a couple hours?).

All of these benchmarks were taken from the most recent few pages of the latest geekbench compute scores.  There's a fair bit of variability in there based on who is running it in what system, but this should give a pretty good idea of general capability.  I look forward to seeing how it folds once F@H support the card. :)

My new goal is to finish in the top 150.  I'm working my way down.

Hope this isn't cooking my MB!  Samsung Magician says an NVME is "too hot" at low to mid-50s when I check - but it hasn't caused any actual problems, pop ups, etc.  Normal temps are low 40s to high 30s when not folding.

After this month I will probably switch to a "low" mode and probably go back to something on BOINC.

It's the one Google form where they asked for a picture of your rig and also your favorite Lenny face, hopefully that brings up some memories (and makes you remember signing up or not) :P
