Konami charges extra for additional save game

Konami game Metal Gear Survive is charging players extra for an additional save, if they don't want to overwrite their old one. The game only gives the player 1 save slot and when they want more, the player must spend an in game currency of 1150SV, which translate to actual $10 dollars. Any additional save slots will cost another $10 each. If a family of 6 all play that game, they will have to spend an extra $50 dollars, just so each of them can have their own save slot.

Quote

Metal Gear Solid requires you to create an avatar, which is tied to your single-player and online multiplayer save file/account. If you want to start a fresh playthrough, you’ve got to create a new character, which means you’ll have to delete your original save or cough up 1,000 SV Coins. Konami is selling their premium in-game currency in various set amounts — 550 SV Coins will set you back $5, while 1150 will cost you $10. In other words, you’ll need to spend at least a tenner to get enough SV Coins to buy a second save slot.

Ramping up the ridiculousness even further, if you share your Steam, Xbox Live, or PSN account with family members, each additional player will have to spend that extra $10 to play with their own character. In addition to charging for save slots, Konami is also selling the usual array of cosmetic DLC, limited time character boosts, and extra loadout slots. But hey, at least they’re not doing loot boxes!

Of course, Metal Gear Survive isn’t the first game to offer only a single save slot, but most previous instances were due to technological limitations or specific design choices. This, on the other hand, just feels like a cheap cash grab by Konami. I don’t want to tell you what to do, but I certainly won’t be paying $10 for access to my own hard drive.

Lmao, I just watched Angry Joe's video on this. This is absolutely hilarious. But I'm really not surprised, considering Konami. Please don't support this game guys. Though we knew it was dead, RIP Metal Gear Solid series. *watches as Konami plays with it's corpse*

In the Winter Olympics we have snow boarding, ice skating, speed skating, sking, etc. Now there is a new event called Keep on Digging, and the only contenders we have are EA, Ubisoft, and Konami.

The race to Brown Gold medal of the abyss.

I almost don't have words for this.  This is actually worse than what EA did with battlefront imo.  That affected in game items but this affects the actual "structure" (sorry idek what to call it) of the game itself.  Next there'll be a $5 addon to let you choose a custom installation location. -_-

im gonna be totally honest.  i dont see the problem.  most many single player games only have 1-3 save slots. if you want to start over, you delete it, and start over.  and looking at multiplayer games, paying 10 bucks for a new character slot isnt overly egregious, its pretty much standard.

if the game didnt give you the option to buy a new save slot, nobody would give a shit about having to delete the character to start over.

Anybody know if you can at least grind to get these SV coins? I like the Metal Gear series so I am trying to see some light in this dark news.

Nice! Soon we will be able to get the main menu through a loot box reward :D

Seriously though, that's literally what this is.  They're taking the actual framework around the game itself and starting to lock parts of that away behind a paywall.  First this, next you won't be allowed to save at all without an addon, or get to the settings menu, etc.  It's absolutely insane.

Some steam reviews say the game is very grindy. Unsure of that means SV coins though.

how about a mini game plus in-game transactions to unlock the main game (completely rng-coupled obviously)...

Well, that's a disappointment. I haven't played a Metal Gear game since Guns of the Patriot and honestly, I've never had the need to get a second save. But that is just my experience.

If I have a physical copy of the game, can I bypass this by having multiple gamer profiles?

I feel I'd be the same way. How many people really need a second save?

I imagine it's one key per account. Since you have to login to play I think they'll have it setup so when you buy the game that game key is tied to the user account.

If that were the case, I wonder what somebody with a used copy of the game would have to do to play since the key has already been used.

I'm surprised the base game isn't 720p with extra charges for the upgrade to 1080p textures then the upgrade to 1440p then the upgrade to 4k. Kojima is rolling in his grave at the downfall of the once incredible Konami.

I don't really have a problem with most loot boxes, cosmetic add ons, etc...but this is absolutely ridiculous. As it was explained to me, the game has character choices; you can choose to play as more than one. However this would make it so that's not possible, at least not at the same time. This is making people pay for additional features, not even additional content. I hope the game bombs horribly.
