Budget (including currency): $1000 CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Autodesk Fusion 360, Prusa slicer, Google chrome (cad, slicing, web browsing).

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

i already have a monitor (1080p), keyboard, and mouse.

i might just use bluetooth headphones for audio, so no need for speakers.

other than that, i have no parts (so no case, motherboard, psu, fans, cpu, gpu, ram, storage, etc.)

i don't care about RGB or looks, i just want a reliable system that can run cad and slicing software better than my old potato of a laptop (an ASUS M509DA, if anyone cares).

i am comfortable with assembling a pc myself, but am not so comfortable with specing components (mainly cpu and gpu, there are so many to choose from!)

if anyone can help, i would greatly appreciate it!

P.S.

if this is the wrong place, could someone tell me where to go?

😅

5600(x) + 3080ti + 32gb 3600c18

a couple used parts goes a very long way especially at this kinda budget, gpu is very obvious but used ryzens are kinda overlooked and those are cheap enough that am4 becomes viable and doesnt get trashed by lga 1700 with a 12600k(f), you could definitely save some extra cash to put into other stuff like a larger ssd or more ram if you went for a used case but thats optional and up to you

5600(x) is neck and neck with the 12400 and will beat the 12400 with abit of tuning so i wouldnt bother spending extra on lga 1700 unless you get atleast a 12600k(f)

3080ti seems to be around the 500 cad mark judging by a few canadians recently coming to the forums with builds based on used 3080tis

5600(x) ill just assume to be 100-120cad by conversion from usd (~80$), if unavailable or overpriced the 5500 also exists and is 120$ new

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/JvF3Jy

7600 + 3060 + 32gb 6000c30

if your usecase is more cpu heavy then this is probably the build youd wanna go for, again used gpu as theyre much cheaper than new and its pretty stupid to buy new last gen anyways with a few exceptions (mainly gpus competitive with used pricing)

yup, totally agree, he never stated whether used was ok, but since it seems to be a work machine i assumed not, if you can, definitely go used.

think reliability is really only a concern when you buy a used board cause those are definitely pretty high risk of random issues compared to all other parts

used cpus basically the same thing as buying new since its risk free once confirmed working

used gpus depends but as long as it is confimed working should also be fine and shouldnt just random die on you for no reason, just have to watch out for scams
