Used GPUs hit the market as ETH price drops

Earlier this week Ethereum's value dropped below $200, as soon as the currency experienced a new difficulty spike, making the currency 20% harder to mine and significantly less profitable. This combined with its decrease in value has made mining Ethereum unprofitable for many miners, especially in regions with higher than average electricity costs.

Now Ethereum is valued at less than $150, with the currency costing $134.97 at the time of writing, which is less than half of the currency's peak value. The currency has the potential to bounce back, though it is difficult to see the currency go back over £250 in the near future.

I personally never saw this lasting. It mirrored the bitcoin rush almost perfectly.

If you live in the US, it isn't as bad. The pinch on miners is happening in the EU first, where electricity costs are higher.

The only change I've seen in the states is a tiny bit of stock here and there. High prices still. 4gb MSI 580 in stock at new egg right now. $280. Way over priced ,but hey! It's there!!

Well, any kinda flood would still take time.

A bunch of people jumping out of mining at once, the majority will try to get a GOOD price for GPUs, so you won't so much see great prices at fisrt.  But if enough GPUs hit eBay and such at once, there could be more supply than demand and over time those units not selling will creep down in price as sellers get more desperate to cash out their hardware while competing against a lot of other sellers who are also desperate to cash out their hardware.

Miners Selling GPUs on eBay after a steep decline in the Ethereum cryptocurrency.

 

"At the same time, volatility is rearing its welcome head, and the value of Ethereum is now less than half of what it was around a month ago. As a result, profitability is way down, and some miners are putting their GPUs up for sale on second-hand sites such as Ebay, CoinDesk reports."

 

Can only be a good thing for us gamers really, I built my PC in April and the price of my Graphics card (Asus GTX 1070 Strix OC) has gone up by £110 from the shop that I got mine from. Hopefully this is the start of the market returning to more reasonable prices as many of my friends want to get into PC gaming as well but just cant justify it at the moment.

Can only be a good thing for us gamers really, I built my PC in April and the price of my Graphics card (Asus GTX 1070 Strix OC) has gone up by £110 from the shop that I got mine from. Hopefully this is the start of the market returning to more reasonable prices as many of my friends want to get into PC gaming as well but just cant justify it at the moment.

Shh, you need a quote or a mod will huff and puff till blue in the face. 

 

But yeah, this is good news I guess. Not sure how much I would like to buy a 2nd hand mining card though.

Fixed it, yeah but hopefully the market overall does come down soon so the new cards won't be marked up as much
