Used GPUs hit the market as ETH price drops

3 hours ago, KE2012 said:

But yeah, this is good news I guess. Not sure how much I would like to buy a 2nd hand mining card though.

Anyone who knew what they were doing mining with Polaris 10 cards was running a custom bios with lower clockspeeds, way less voltage than stock, and overclocked memory.

I think I'd probably rather have an ex-mining card over a secondhand gaming card.

Either way, they're gonna be everywhere and I'm going to water cool the thing so who cares if the fans are on their way out.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

Well there seems to be a slight drop in price in 2nd hand cards on UK ebay.

I don't trust them though.

Yah I thought something like this had happened when I saw that quad 470 miner for sale yesterday

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

It seems like there is a mass migration happening here in Austria.

On every second listing for a used Radeon RX card the person says the reason for selling their mining rig or card is space constraints in the new appartment they're moving to. Do they seriously expect anybody to believe that? LOL

Actually this has nothing to do with it. Right now its $1.30:£1 before brexit it was about $1.45:£1. Tech prices however tend to work out at around $1:£1 (excluding items discounted on sale). It was like this before brexit and it won't go away. In terms of tech $ go much further than £/€ even though GBP is worth more.

Yeah no, in 2016  the £:$ exchange rate reached a high of over £1.50 to $1. As recently as last week it was down below £1.10 to $1 and is only on the up now as forecasters are predicting the UK will have to settle for soft brexit.

Exchange rates don't affect local pricing, mostly pricing is set per region by manufacturers so yes, hardware is 1:1 £:$ (as a general rule) but that's because of greedy manufacturers not the exchange rate although recently we've seen a wave of manufacturers increasing prices and blaming the exchange rate, let's see if they lower the prices when the pound gets stronger again.

Hint: they won't.

I know and I said it was always this way despite whatever the exchange rate is between the actual currencies. Thanks for repeating me though. It was you that blamed brexit and therefore the value of the £. Then later on you say the value of the £ has nothing to do with it? Make your mind up.

Hey look its you blaming the weak £ for the prices ^ Oh but above its also you saying the exchange rate has nothing to do with the prices. Which one are you going to go with mate? You can't have both.

I don't expect you'll believe me but that was a genuine typo, I honestly meant £1.20 not £1.10. I must have hit the 2 key instead of the 1 key.

Also those charts are pretty misleading, they only show the closing price as a point on the graph, it even says on the second one that the low was £1.20 and yet the graph shows £1.25.

I blamed brexit for destroying the £ not for the price of hardware.

The graph works fine if you know how to read it. Mousing over the low point between dec and feb on the X axis will show you the £1.20 dip.

Correct my apologies (I misinterpreted). Still graphs are right, tech is 1:1 even if it shouldn't be. I'll take your word for the typo but the £1.20 low sure wasn't last week :P it was 15/01/17

EDIT: Previous post amended.
