CPU upgrade.

Helloo, I've been doing a lot of video editing, and it feels like my AMD Ryzen 5 3500x 3.6 GHz 6-core processor is slowing me down, whenever I'm rendering or exporting footage it gets real laggy.

I have 2 questions:

1. What is the market value for a used AMD Ryzen 5 3500x 3.6 GHz 6-core processor

2. What should I upgrade to, in a mid range budget, nothing too crazy.

My current specs:

Operating System

Windows 11 Home 64-bit
CPU
   AMD Ryzen 5 3500X  3.6Ghz 6 Core
 RAM
    32,0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1199MHz (17-17-17-39)
Motherboard

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING (AM4)
Graphics
8176MB ATI AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT
Storage
    953GB Lexar NVME.2 SSD NM620 1TB

Check the sold/completed eBay listings for your country. That will give you a rough estimate.

Something like a 5700X would be a decent upgrade for you. You'll just have to update the BIOS to the latest version (or at least one that supports Ryzen 5000) before you do the swap.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Is your RAm 2400 MHz or did you forget to turn on XMP?

Because DDR4 2400 would severely bottleneck any Zen 2 or Zen 3 CPU. If it's 3000, 3200 or such not so much.

Could you elaborate?

I Have this RAM - Kingston Fury Beast, DDR4, 32 GB, 3200 MHz 2x16GB

Have I not set something up correctly?

" 32,0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1199MHz (17-17-17-39)" This is what it shows in Speccy

Seems XMP is not enabled then.

Should be @ ~1600Mhz

Oh, I'll look into it. In this case, not having XMP enabled made the performance worse?

In your case there should be DOCP, something like:

I edit my posts more often than not

Your RAm is working at 2400 Mhz Instead of 3200. You are loosing a lot.

Yes, way worse.

You have to turn on XMP or DOCP in the Bios.

Also, make sure you're on the latest Bios version.

the 5700x Needfuldoer suggested would be good, its about 170eur right now on rdveikals. If you were doing gaming primarily, i would suggest the 5700x3d, as it can be had for about 250eur

If you do work mainly, get a 5700X or a 5800X, if you game mostly get a 5700X3D or 5800X3D.

All of them are great upgrades.
