The Nokia 3310, infamous for never breaking or running out of battery, is going on sale again! I can see a lot of people (possibly myself) buying one to have as an indestructible backup phone, and even more people just for nostalgia and Snake. What are your thoughts?

This is good. Awesome even. But i doubt they'll make a ton of money out of it. They need to reproduce on the smartphone market what made this phone successful on the mobile market in the first place : invulnerability to damage, and a battery life that lasts for a week at least.

you'd be surpirsed. there's actually a big market for "indestructible dumbphones" in the professional market. a lot of people are starting to carry two phones: their own smartphone, and whatever the company gave them with a card from the company in it. in for example the world of construction, having these phones be near indestructible (seriously, i had a go at a 3310 a few years back, they're intense) is a big plus for the company because it means they wont be getting replacement shitty smartphones every year. having it be a "dumbphone" also means that advances in software, constant charging, and other smartphone related mess cant make the phone outdated to the point the company has to replace a working device.

 

my old folks are in the kitchen buisiness, result of me telling them this is that the moment these launch there'll be 6 lumia's on a shelf to be replaced by good old 3310's  (the lumias are stupidly unwieldly, even uglier than these things, and appareantly lock up constantly. thanks microsoft )

 

and you better believe those "waterproof" cover things will be back faster than you can install an otterbox:

With two, you can test the age old theory of what happens when two indestructible objects collide.

 

I suspect it could result in some sort of horrific tear in the universe though as space and time around the collision will be utterly fucked.

3310 is nice and all, but if I want a really indestructible phone I'd go to the Motorola candybar phones of the 90s. So freaking dense and rigid, and more rounded.

A week ??? The hell were you doing ? I lasted a month on a single charge.... heck I forgot the phone at school over summer and came back in september and it still had 2 bars

I can both understand, and not understand this move.

Has the simple, cheap phone market really dried up so much that nokia is going to revive a dead phone and hope it stays afloat simply because, nostalgia? It better be bringing more to the table than just that >.> How else will it distinguish itself from the dozens if not hundreds of other brands with virtually identical phones that are already saturating the market?

I could see this selling really well overseas, but not so much in the first world.

this is newer battery and I'm interested. It's a great phone, and it would be great to have.
