The legendary Nokia 3310 is returning to market

What are your thoughts?

It never went anywhere as far as I'm concerned.

If it's an exact copy, €59 is a really nice price.  New (as in New Old Stock) 3310s are selling for well into the triple digit range nowadays.

I use my '00 one as my main phone.  It's been 4 days since I charged it and the battery is still 4/4 full.  Then again that's to be expected because last year I swapped out the original battery for an 1800mAh Li-Poly affair that gives me around 2.5 weeks on a single charge.

Many phones would last days as well if people didn't use them for things we used desktops for 10 years ago. By comparison, my old game boy can probably outperform a Nokia.

Still, if this Nokia phone gets portable Hotspot capabilities, one could get away without having a smartphone at all.

For something like this, I'm really tempted to get one, charge it up and toss it into the glove box or center console of my car with a spare car charger just for emergencies.

I can both understand, and not understand this move.

Has the simple, cheap phone market really dried up so much that nokia is going to revive a dead phone and hope it stays afloat simply because, nostalgia? It better be bringing more to the table than just that >.> How else will it distinguish itself from the dozens if not hundreds of other brands with virtually identical phones that are already saturating the market?

I could see this selling really well overseas, but not so much in the first world.

Before my time. No interest.

Also hopefully they update radios, 2G networks are being shut down left and right

Do third world countries still have wide 2G networks?

That's where the phone will likely be marketed.

5 hours ago, Dan Castellaneta said:

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the price.

Is it 60 euros unlocked? Or is there something else to it?

Most likely for third world markets. It's also a feature phone, so pricing shouldn't be that high. There isn't much going on there.

Eh, maybe if Android didn't consume so much battery power when it's in standby. Nougat helped but it still loves to mow down on that sweet lithium cake.

I doubt it will sell any better there, there are a lot more commodity phones there and a lot of people who would want/could afford a phone would just go for a cheap smartphone.

It's major selling point in first world countries is nostalgia and mindshare. Neither of those exist in third world countries for nokia.
