Halo 2 Anniversay Campaign Won't run in 1080p

Puddleuk

Halo 2: Anniversary's campaign will not run at a native 1080p resolution as many would have expected, Microsoft has confirmed.

The face-lifted rendition of the original Xbox game will run at a sub-full HD resolution of 1328x1080 at 60fps (frames per second), 343 executive producer Dan Ayoub has revealed.

The drop in resolution to 1328x1080 means that, while the vertical resolution remains identical to a full 1080p image, the horizontal pixel count is paired back by just over 30 per cent, and then likely upscaled to 1080p to fit the full 1080p resolution of an HD display.

First time posting news. Hope its OK :)

Edit: Personally I find this somewhat amusing. Halo 2 Anniversary is being made exclusively for Xbox One (I think) so the fact that it cannot run in 1080p whereas all the other games (360 Games) do is somewhat amusing and really points to a flaw in the Platform. They focus way too much on pretty graphics that resolution suffers.

You betcha. Good old Xbox One.

I'm glad though that it's still 60fps. I would take 720p if it meant 60fps. I'm still hoping that they will release this on the PC in a year or something though.

I mean honestly its still going to be a huge step up... If they had to decide between 1920x1080 30FPS and that resolution but 60FPS im not going to complain much. The halo anniversary edition might actually get me to purchase and Xbox One.

1328x1080 is slightly more narrow (more like a cube) than 4:3.

If I remember correctly, Halo 2 was not 16:9 so it makes some sense that it won't run at that. It kind of sucks and they most likely could have made it 16:9 with some work but I strongly doubt it's for performance reasons.

It's running two (old and new) render engines simultaneously on a weak APU ... what did you expect?

Despite that, Halo 2 Anniversary looks fantastic (texture and lighting work is great).

Yeah. They can put it on Windows if they want me to buy it. Not going to support a platform that buys up PC franchises like Halo, Tomb Raider, Mine Craft and keeps or delays them off PC...from their own customers.

400 bucks for a x86 PC that can't even run it's own exclusive at 1080p. No thanks. I already have a PC, and I have a PC with their operating system. Why would I support screwing over my own platform. Let the system rot.

It's a shame. If they had sold the systems with some more loss (like last gen) maybe they were able to deliver a better system =/ At least it not like AC: Unity. Weird resolution + 30 fps. Well, I guess we can only see in a few years if it's really the consoles' fault or programmers just have to get used to it... (Although I am starting to doubt the last one as the Xbox One and PS4 are very similar to PC's)

What a sick joke, although most console players will see 1080 at the end and think it's full HD at 60fps.

Uh, take a AMD 7770 and give it some l33t DDR3 VRAM and go wild. See what you can hit 1080p with or 60 FPS with.

Flash games?

Pretty much man. I mean it isn't like PS4 is much more powerful. Vanilla 7850 in TFLOPS and about a aftermarket 7790 in power. Seeing them argue over power is pretty funny to be honest. You should check out the IGN article on the 900 P AC Unity game.

PS4 owners think they own a supercomputer and XB1 owners think a 150 mhz overclock from 1.6 to 1.75 means their cpu is uber powerful. One claimed the PS4 CPU was better than an I7. Comedy gold.

I would make a IGN account to argue with them but it wouldn't do any good and the entertainment comes from just watching them fighting on my phone. I guess I am rooting more for the Sony side (cus downgrading is stupid) but both sides are hilarious.

So the Xbox can't even run an old game at 1080p 60fps. When are they going to realise that they made a really bad mistake in choosing this hardware.

It's running an old game and the "new" one at the same time.

Still not a great excuse when Halo: CE Anniversary is literally doing the same thing while running at 1080p60, but that's their reason.

Well to be fair Halo 2 got new textures. The other games did not. They just got a rescale. So the XB1 CAN run a really old game at 1080p 60fps.

Not saying much though. Maybe they can upscale KOTOR to 1080p at 60 FPS and resell that with original textures.

Halo CEA is a 360 port though, lower texture resolution, lower polycount, worse lighting and a less taxing game (Halo CE) in the background.
