LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

@LazyDev  Awww mannnnn, unless I get some magical WUs, I think you might overtake me.  At current trajectory it's going to come down to the wire.

dropped temps by ~20c on the Msi and 10c on evga lol the evga is clocking higher thou along with msi.
yeah bender will be going down tomorrow after the event for an hour for dust removal there’s a little bit of dust in there as I removed all the air filters at the beginning of the event. And imagine that having the Fans all at 100% gathered dust up 😂

Hahaha. That's a big temp drop. I've noticed something kind of strange while tinkering with fan speeds over the last hour: it seems like once my GPU goes above 1965 MHz the PPD Performance (at least according to the Folding in the Dark extension's DB performace comparison) starts going down. At 1965 it gets around 6-9% over the average of the database (on the current WU), but when it goes to 1980 it drops to about +4%, then at 1995 it goes to +2%. Any ideas why? could it need some more memory speed? I am just using stock memory clock (when the p2 state is off) and clock is just on the curve automatically made with MSI Afterburner's OC Scanner. Also is still at stock voltage, but the power limit is set to 120% and temp limit at 88C

My goal now is to stay in the top 50 as I lost my second machine's CPU fan which crashed the machine.  I have one on order to fix it but being one machine down hurts.  Guess the stock AMD 1700 cooler just isn't enough to cool passively.  :)

Cooler is in and fired back up, going to give it hell the last little bit!!!  Working on keeping in the top 50.

Don't think I'll quite make it to the 100 million mark before the end of the event 😪, but ah well, I tried haha. Been going since end of March with a bit of a break over summer because of the heat. Only got a little 1060 6gb, overclocked a lot, but still only about 8-900,000 PPD on a good day.

❤️ Let's Game it Out.  I discovered this game through his series on it.

But if the big guys don't interact well with vehicles, that might explain one of my tractors going way off the rails -- it went like 1km north of its track and seems to have clipped into the ground.  I haven't fully explored the area, but I don't think there are underground caves around there, so I can't even reclaim it.

I found it threw a Nerd3 live stream that got uploaded (I think either that or I actually watched it live).

Use either https://satisfactory-calculator.com or https://github.com/Goz3rr/SatisfactorySaveEditor

All you need to do is set the Z to 9999 which makes it 100m above (i'm guessing) in games sea level, that should be enough to make it rise from the dead. For the save editor you'll need to search tractor to pull it up and look for the negative z number (or biggest one). The tractor I tested it on was sitting in front of my train station 😂

I'm pretty sure I joked a few weeks back I would get my 30 series card with only 2 days left in the event.

Well... I should start making stock picks, cause yeah.

It's due to how different every % of WU can be. You shouldn't be looking at "current PPD" as even a moving mouse can reduce your PPD as your GPU renders that as well as background. Turning off your monitor or letting it go to sleep can get you up to 5% more PPD or even more. Browsing through windows file explorer can lower your PPD up to 4%, that is why they are averages and why you should always look at them.

It's nuts how the little changes make a big difference it's why animated GIFs are removed from the dark mode extension, they can chew up 2-5% of GPU 3D overhead... hell so can you animated forum profile image @cbigfoot

It's really a matter of getting the max out of your system is to not be on it, using it etc. headless is best.

if you're folding on your daily driver you have to accept your OS is a 3D environment for most OS's these days, browsing, video etc. all messes with your GPU / PPD.

Even a benchmarking tool can mess with it if it's showing overlays, live updates, etc.   For max PPD all the machine should be doing is folding.

Doubt I can catch you with 8 hours left. That's only 8 million points at my current ~24MPPD output and you had a 13 million point lead as of 20:00EDT.

Congratulations, well played Sir!

I'm happy with 6th place. My local Electricity provider took me out for 12 hours near the start of the event with a scheduled maintenance window and I shot myself in the foot forgetting to stop my cron jobs for time-of-day electricity usage on the first day.

I've already set two of my 1060s to finish as with a 1:34 TPF there's no way they could complete another WU before 00:00GMT.

I have noticed when I run the OC Scanner in MSI Afterburner that it says that the GPU is power limited (even though I have the power limit set to max at 120%). The RTX 2070 (or at least the one I have) only has one 8 pin power connector. Is there anything I can do to overcome that power limit? And could this be also part of why increasing the GPU fan speed sometimes seems to slow down folding, even though temp has gone down and clock speed went up a bit?

Also, is it possible that higher GPU clock can actually start creating lower PPD?
