LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

Those aren't really worth anything themselves, the system will still boot, just the BIOS won't have the proper time. System should assuming it isn't my i5 computer 1:15 in the future 🤪) and it is connected to the internet when logged in at least.

Ultra Durable, is that kind of like Asus with their Tuf line when they liked to claim "military grade parts" when military standard testing is actually pretty typical for many parts in consumer goods. I guess at least the Tuf boards are built fairly decent so maybe the comparison isn't fair

Gigabytes VRM designs up to the x470 and b450 were typically weak right up to the Pro variants. The Ultras and above were better. Thankfully they’ve fixed this in x570 and b550 where even the Gaming variants have a VRM you could run a 3/5900x on and not be as worried.

Now if board manufacturers would get rid of useless “sexy” heat dissipation and go back to real high fin density heat sinks for VRMs.

Even though the Master I replaced this with has a decent heat sink some moron in marketing insisted they slap a useless but “sexy” chunk of metal overtop of it that impedes airflow. Once it survives a few months and is past the bathtub curve for failures I’ll do some surgery and fix that.

$2USD is actually expensive, I think the local dollar stores have them for less than Amazon, maybe not per unit but why waste $6 when you only need one that costs $1.50 tops?

Why fix garbage? I had to use a Macro lens to photograph that and buying a hot air rework station to fix it and my increasing bad vision It’s just not worth it. Besides there is likely trace damage and other dead components.

I got that board on sale for $60 Canadian on a whim and got exactly what I paid for. Fortunately it didn’t take out the 32GB DDR4-3200 CL16 memory kit, CPU Or NVMe collaterally.

About the only useful part left is a spare CR2032 CMOS battery.

I had the same board, failed to boot loop without video. Took the CMOS battery and chipset fan as salvage.

Also you predicted this almost 2 weeks ago 🤣

I have yet to tame a lizard doggo. I also tried to assassinate the giant flying dinosaur bird thing, but it is unkillable.  It also clips through my glass skybase.  I do hope they shore up the end game, though.  All I'm doing at this point is rearranging my base.  I'd like some more difficult goals.

But yeah, not going insane with boredome > staying in top 20.  At least I thought so at the time.  But since I've managed to maintain my position until now I wasn't too worried about it.  Now that I am about to lose it, though, I see its value.

taming one is easy, dragging it back is a different story. Yea the flying ray isn't killable (I have tried too) and best to build away from it, it clips threw a train station I made and just barely makes it over my steel pipe/beam facility.

For me I'm building a new base out in the desert basically abandoning my old one once built, it'll be massive, I think I have 200+ 2 car train stations under it each one separated by one platform length.

find a few movies and binge watch them, either that or get lost in the youtube matrix.

Don't have updated pics of it but this happened at the beginning 🤣 (plus my old base to show the disaster it was)
I have the passive mode mod enabled because imo trying to kill those things is a huge pain after completing the tasks needed.

I used the Stackable Conveyor Pole to get up that high. Front of the station is steel left is iron the one over is aluminum, next to that is plastic/water waste and beside that is reinforced beams. Steel is 100% contained no interaction needed Iron not so much, but I only need to grab what is needed inside everything else runs w/o interaction. Under the train station produces silica and holds materials delivered.

I'll likely keep my steel operational as it runs too perfectly to shut it down.

that was the one I was looking at getting when x570 came out if i recall but i got this instead as it has a heat pipe on the vrm lol as i was upgrading to a 3900x so knew i needed a real VRM

Enclose them (at least leg height as video below demonstrates) and kill them (or keep them as a pet), they may not hurt you but if you leave a vehicle near them they'll send it to hell. I caught the one that lived near the steel building doing it to one of my poor tractors. I do have one living under my new base however 😂 Might have a video of it doing so, not sure, shadowplay hates me.

You're right, had whiskey brain last night, mine was a https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-UD-rev-10#kf which has a similar design pattern on the board, but is X570

I have the Gaming X which shares the same VRM Design with 5 phases (Discrete MOSFETs) twinned for Vcore. I bought it originally for the 6-GPU system as it is the lowest end board that explicitly states in the manual it supports bifurcation. Still for their lowest-end design in x570 a much more capable VRM than found on that tier on x470 & b450. It's now in one of the kids gaming systems with a 2700.

that was the one I was looking at getting when x570 came out if i recall but i got this instead as it has a heat pipe on the vrm lol as i was upgrading to a 3900x so knew i needed a real VRM

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10#kf

I have that one as well with a 3900x in it. 6 digital phases (Smart Power Stages) with doublers. Same as the Elite below it and Ultra above. A step above the discrete MOSFETs used in the lower tiers and as you mention a real heatsink.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say a dead shunt resistor is a symptom, not a cause

in any case i'm glad i've only put a 2600 at max in one of these because they're not up to snuff, clearly

More likely to survive a 65W part than a 105W but the issue I'd have with a 2600 is most people would want to over-clock it to get some of that "free" performance uplift which means higher Vcore voltage and more current. Likely OK for gaming workloads though.

❤️ Let's Game it Out.  I discovered this game through his series on it.

But if the big guys don't interact well with vehicles, that might explain one of my tractors going way off the rails -- it went like 1km north of its track and seems to have clipped into the ground.  I haven't fully explored the area, but I don't think there are underground caves around there, so I can't even reclaim it.

@GOTSpectrum I am not asking for change here, just clarification: With the event ending on the 15th, does that mean that the folding that happens overnight tonight and through tomorrow is included, or does it mean that tonight at the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th is when the event ends?

No, the results are pulled from FAH servers using a script made by Leadeater
