Not really, my computer is on 24/7 and only doubles my power consumption (while folding) which costs 75% more(during non-off peak hours), normally I shut things down like external HDDs to lower costs during mid/on peak. Tho the break in the variables was a nice bonus

Might go to the Tiered pricing route being offered, or maybe just build a big enough battery bank to charge during the 12 hours off peak time

At least in the US, batteries that are installed along with solar, count for solar incentive dollars.  If you have ToU billing, you may find they pay for themselves reasonably quickly, especially if you can also get incentives on them.

 

(Un)fortunately? we don't have ToU billing where I am, so I'm just installing more solar (which also will happen to offset most use during expensive bill times if ToU ever becomes a thing).

We’ll I’ve been wanting one for a while and I figured that the 2700x wouldn’t kill the VRM in it. 4 phases with twinned MOSFETs => 12 Phases with 50A smart power stages.

 

The dual selectable BIOS is nice. I’ll likely leave a legacy BIOS in the backup so I can still run Ryzen 1000 CPUs. Or I could just use the z370 Gaming K7 I picked up open box for $130Cdn

Now to decide on a new CPU ... 5900x versus 5950x ... decisions decisions

Dont be stupid you went all out get the 5950 its the only CPU that will use that board for what its worth...just make sure to get your Noctua NH-D15, or be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4...any other CPU and it would be overkill...

My goal now is to stay in the top 50 as I lost my second machine's CPU fan which crashed the machine.  I have one on order to fix it but being one machine down hurts.  Guess the stock AMD 1700 cooler just isn't enough to cool passively.

No, I could have bought the extreme 

 

I have a NHD15 on my 3900x and it works well in that application 63C across all cores while running BOINC versus the EVGA 280mm AIO I had to put on the 9900K for the same workload.

 

This system will be primarily used for virtualization with extra threads for BOINC so it’s all about finding the right mix of GB/thread depending on the mix of VMs. I’m leaning towards the 5900x and a NHD15S currently. Less RAM overhang issues but it might not fit in the Define C. Even the Hyper 212 That’s in there now is close.

 

The other reasons I went for the Master were the better IOMMU groups and known ECC support but I don’t know if I’m going down the ECC route yet but I have seen large capacity 32GB DDR4-3200 ECC sticks recently so hopefully the ECC premium will start to be less of a thing.

 

I just don’t think the extra threads in a 5950x justify the disproportionate increase in cost.

want to give a small update to person asking on small folding pc.

i thought parts where dead. seeing i pulled out my testing psu to test all the parts after the old psu crap out.

still nothing was powering on.....

 i for  my oc sake of it. turn off and used another pc psu. for the fun of it...

pc parts turn on and where working.

so idk when while test psu was  not plug in. out right died on me.

so 2 dead psu i now have .

False alarm.  I thought it was 10mil for the next badge, not 25mil.  That'll be…a few more years.
