  1. Hi All, I was going through the Datasheet for the Seagate Exos X16 drives and I notice there was a footnote for the logical sector portion. It mentioned that I could switch from 512e to 4Kn using the FastFormat routine. I was wondering if anyone has any experience on this and can share with me how is it like? Thanks!
  2. Hi All, Just wondering if I can mix HDD of different phyiscal sectors (e.g. 512 native, 512 emulated, 4K native, etc...) in a NAS? Currently looking at Synology SHR technology as a basis for combining the storage and using some of my older unused HDD as part of the storage. And I happen to see some cheaper Seagate Exos online but they are using 512e, so I wasn't sure if I could mix them or not.
  3. So basically, if I manage to get a 2x 8 Pin version 1200W should be okay. If I manage to get a 3x 8 Pin version, I will need to go to at least a 1500W model.
  4. Hi All, Just wanted to check if anyone has more numbers I can look at for the PSU Requirements for Dual GeForce RTX 3090s. I am currently looking at 1200W model based on the numbers I got from OuterVision Power Supply Calculator, which was around 1050W. The estimated specs of the system are: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X X570 Motherboard 64 GB RAM 1 TB NVME SSD 6 TB HDD Dual GeForce RTX 3090s If anyone needs more info or can point me to a good resource, let me know.
  5. Never tried hypervisors before. Is it something like another kind of OS?
  6. Hi All, I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section or even the wrong forum to ask this. I was wondering if there a guide or something for choosing Operating Systems for multi-platform deployment or is it a case where it is based on experience. I have this workstation which was initially spec to run a Computer Vision module for research purposes. I took the requirements from the engineers working on that project so I know they needed something like Ubuntu. Now I have management asking me to also use the same machine for Windows based application.
  7. Not sure if it is related or not. I had a problem with a colleagues laptop being unable to connect to a WIFI 6 network. Only after updating the drivers from Intel then I was able to connect to the network. But for her case it is a WIFI 5 laptop connecting to a WIFI 6 network.
  8. Just thought of giving the AiMesh and well mesh network in general a go and see if that helps. Currently I do have an old D-Link DIR-300 as a secondary access point supported by an ethernet cable to my main router. I'm looking more on coverage as a last mile thing as one of the rooms that is supposed to be covered by the D-Link doesn't reach there. I do try to select my own channels on 1, 6 and 11 for 2.4 GHz to avoid the neighbours. So another thing I hope to find out is that does the AiMesh allow you to select channels or is it those attempt to select the best c
  9. Hi all, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on the ASUS AiMesh concept? Currently, there is a promotion by my ISP to bundle the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC2900. I was thinking of adding a second router to extend the network at my place due to concrete walls everywhere. The ASUS RT-AC86U cost around 300 where I live and the ASUS RT-AX58U cost around 240. I do not know if the networks can mix being one from WIFI 6 and another from WIFI 5. Also I do not know if I will lose out on the WIFI 6 connection because the system tries to standardize all to WIFI
  10. Did you install it as a Service? I am currently also using 7.6.21 but I do have a task tray icon when I'm folding.
  11. Anyone else not getting any WU for CPUs? Currently running a Ryzen 3700X if that makes any difference.
  12. I'll check back with her tomorrow. I guess I can only look at the paper performance then. Just curious, if there is no SLI but multiple GPUs, how are they utilised? I always though the SLI link was the one to ensure that all GPUs are in sync or something. Never tried SLI or Crossfire before for that matter.
  13. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has come across any materials about the performance of the RTX 3090 vs Dual or even Triple RTX 2080 Ti? I only managed to catch that the RTX 3070 is better than the RTX 2080 Ti but at half the price and without SLI. Looking to understand better about the performance for Machine Learning for a friend.
  14. I try to avoid online shopping. Had bad experiences before when items were DOA. Barracuda locally max out at 4TB.
  15. All of them do, I guess. Though locally I am stuck with Ironwolf or Ironwolf Pro for Seagate. So basically if I am looking at 6TB or higher, I'll be looking at the Red Pro versions.
