Here to make an impression - AMD to release integrated graphics desktop APU in July

williamcll

While everyone are hyped up about the upcoming Big Navi GPU and 3000XT series AMD chips, it seems like the renoir APU (CPUs with integrated graphics aka Intel non-F)  versions of Zen 2 will be announced by July. It is believed six models including PRO and E models will be available. It is not certain what model of graphics each processor uses.

Quote

csm_Screenshot_2020_05_23_at_01.35.38_cd

Among the processors listed is the Ryzen 7 4700G, an image of which appeared online last week. The OPN code "100-000000146" from that image matches the code listed by Biostar and the one reported by igor'sLAB. Additionally, Biostar confirmed six other OPN codes on the list leaked by igor'sLAB and the names to which they relate:

  • 100-000000143 - Ryzen 5 4400G
  • 100-000000145 - Ryzen 7 PRO 4700G
  • 100-000000148 - Ryzen 3 PRO 4200G
  • 100-000000149 - Ryzen 7 4700GE
  • 100-000000150 - Ryzen 5 4400GE
  • 100-000000151 - Ryzen 3 4200GE

Since these remaining OPN codes refer to processors with multiple core counts, they are not the same APU. Hence, it would seem that AMD has not only developed "G", "PRO G" and "GE" edition of desktop Renoir APUs, but also a fourth edition. AMD is expected to announce these Renoir desktop APUs before it releases Zen 3-based Ryzen 4000 processors. There is no word on a release date for these Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 4000G APUs, though.

However, a site in Hong Kong says that the release would be July 27th. Source translated from Chinese:

Quote

Based on the current news, it can be confirmed that the new Ryzen 4000G series will be based on 7nm, Zen 2 architecture, and the number of cores has also been significantly increased to a maximum of 8 cores and 16 threads. The latest revealed are the Ryzen 7 4700G CPU-Z screenshot and AIDA64 tests. 4700G is paired with a B550 motherboard and running at 4.4GHz clock, even supporting up to DDR4-5600 MHz!? The new generation has significantly increased the number of cores, doubled from the 4 cores and 8 threads of the previous-generation Ryzen 5 3400G to the maximum 8 cores and 16 threads, and the maximum Boost clock can reach 4.45GHz. It will be upgraded to 8MB L3 Cache, supporting DDR4-3200 memory. The built-in graphics core is 7nm Vega 8 GPU, and then replaced with 7nm, Zen 2 architecture, it is expected that the performance will be significantly improved.

As for the selling price, the current news estimates that 8-core Ryzen 7 4700G will be priced between US$200-250, 6-core and 4-core Ryzen 5 4400G and Ryzen 3 4300G will be priced between US$150-200. AMD has confimed that the announcement of the Ryzen 4000G series APU will be on July 27, and it will be fully compatible with budget platforms such as B550 and A520.

Thoughts: The R3 4300G would be fantastic as a low end HTPC without the need of a graphics card. I'm not sure what practical use a 4700G could be, but I guess the the integrated GPU can offload background graphics processes?

If true these CPUs would be a beast for a workstation/lab build. What I would have liked from the start, decent core counts and iGPU.

If the 4700G will really cost 200-250$, it's a pretty good alternative to w 3700X with higher prices. I didn't saw the Boost Clock but Base Clock is the same.

Yep.

But seriously though, when is RDNA coming to APUs ?

And can't AMD align their APU names with their CPU names ?

For example the zen 3 APUs could be named ryzen 4750G , 4450G and 4250G for one generation, then all of the chips can have 5000 naming in the 4th generation ryzen lineup, or else the jump to AM5 will be confusing AF.

AMD have always had PRO versions for their Ryzen CPUs,

But the problem here is that the Zen 2 refresh is a mere place holder for Zen 3 which AMD plans to release in early 2021.

They did the same thing with the FX-83XX wraith editions, and 3 months later released Ryzen.

Looking very good though.

Now imagine if they made APU like what XBSX/PS5 have, I mean come on that would be amazing hah.

If something like this had been available when I built the last building modelling/CAD system I made for my office, I would have absolutely gone with it. Processor needs to be beefy but graphics don't need to do much.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

No change in architecture (think Vega VII) but the die shrink means a better clock, there were mentions of iGPU clock of up to 1.9Ghz

there is a massive ipc gain with that vega igpu though, and clocks are up to 2.1Ghz

There's a lot of changes to the architecture. AMD keeps iterating on each of their 3 main architectures, but it does look like it's the last non-semi custom product that'll use a Vega design as a GPU. (Vega is extremely good in iGPUs, it's scaling up to Desktop use where it's has problems.)

Nah, the Vega uArch itself hasn't changed with Renoir past the media and display engines getting switched out for Navi's. The main uplift in performance actually does come from the increase in sustained clocks, the increased clocks boosted rasterisation performance - the difference scales perfectly with clocks as the boosted iGPU clocks also boost the output of the related specifc FF hardware. The CUs themselves are practically identical otherwise.

Also it may or may not be the final Vega iGPU product - only time or a damn good leak will tell.

Good for HTPCs and such I suppose?

But also can AMD just fix their naming schemes? Cause this APU's having an extra 1000 in their skus is just stupid... Also why do they have the "Pro" models? really just wastes bio space they just the last 2 years they had multiple big BIOS fiascos... with the Zen 2 launch and again with the 300/400 chipsets not supporting Zen and Zen+
