Ya my other 2080ti has been nothing but problems.  Either failing everything or in forever queues of pause restart.  It seems to be doing ok now on only normal WU's, but it seems to just be sitting mostly idle now.

Was getting a reliable 4.5m minimum daily, into the 5.5-6mil daily range for a while, and now that GPU crapping out on me for FAH is hurting :( At least it still games perfectly.

The 3x 3080ti's I buy when they launch will have me stronger than ever though bigfoot!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 3080tis should be illegal lol at least during competitions...

Underclock, x80ti cards are much more likely to have clocking issues as vendors factory OC them well past the point of perfection trying to have the fastest card. Also, the larger silicon area make it more likely that minor defects are there. Things that pass QC as they are mostly fine but, can cause issues in some situations.  And for not getting WU, I've been having that issue too... Usually this is also fixable by lowering clocks

Dropped 5 slots today.  Only folded half as many points as yesterday for whatever reason.

To be honest... like on the 2060s i'm running, I suggest no OC, leave it stock.   Set the power target lower on the card and set the fans to run on a more aggressive curve.

Stable cards running cooler get more PPD in the moment and in the long run when they don't crash on work units.

The biggest upgrade I have done folding really is improving cooling in my cases with fast / quiet fans like noctua 140mms

Oh... and if you're still using the PC you can drop PPD a lot as doing stuff still uses the GPU even just in windows or watching youtube etc.

The 2060's I have running are on a headless linux box that only fold.   They are running best case.

I actually haven't had any issues since dropping the clock below 2Ghz. I get non stop WU's for the CPU and GPU.

Although I still am running a windows app in the background so I can watch anime while the rest is folding. I might switch to using my laptop for a while and see what the difference in PPD comes out to.

And while I didn't build this rig soley with folding in mind, I did want to see how big of a difference it would make versus my laptop lol ( which was MASSIVE) So I'm still just continuing folding for the hell of it.

Btw, what are your GPU temps running at? I've taken over manual control of the fans through afterburner and mine is sitting at a stable 55° @ 84% fan speed.

The real funny is when you realize that the 2060 supers for like $500 do 1.7-1.8 Mil PPD.
Then the 2070 Super once it averages out will do about 1.8-1.9 mil PPD. for 6-700$
Then for way more money $800 to $1200 the 2080 Super does around 2-2.1 Million PPD

Price to performance the 2060 Supers are PPD machines under the right conditions.

Are you sure about that pricing?

I got my 2080 S (basically new as it was unpacked and bought in Serbia) for like 600 euro in Serbia (where prices are usually +10/+15% compared to EU and +20/+30% compared to USA) like 4-6 months ago.

I figure that prices have inflated due to governments handing out money all over the globe, but I didn't expect them to be THAT inflated. Up from 600 euro (680 USD) to 800-1200 USD is a big jump nonetheless...

appreciate the advice spec.  Ill maybe pull back the power and clocks by 5%?  Do you think that would be enough?

Frustrating in that it was seriously basically running through the covid competition (when I got started) and up until the last few days it could sit in beta/advanced queues 24/7 with very scarce issues.  I will give downclocking a try and see if that fixes it up.

As devs are getting more used to core 22 we are seeing our GPUs pushed like never before.

The truth is, it pushes harder and someimtes the GOUs push back. You just gotta see how it does. Don't power limit the card as you are basically doing the same thing. TBH a voltage bump may even get the thing stable at the clocks you are seeing now. My 1080 needs that to get 2100mhz stable for folding.

one of my 2080Ti wont fold unless i downclock it to 1600 and 80% Power limit.  It is 100% stable with that power limit and underclock though.  other one exact same card sits there and bangs away at 2000 and 110% power limit no problem solid as a rock.....

That's great to hear on both fronts, save your eyes and looking forward to the 2070 super data, it's the missing card of the RTX supers in the DB list currently! :)

Well I know how much you were wanting some more data for your site, so I fired up my laptop and set it to monitor my new rig's F@H client so I could let it run for the next 24h with nothing else running to see the PPD impact.
In doing so I figured you'd love to get some data on an old (and spectacularly shitty) nVidia Quadro K1100M!!

I'm honestly surprised that it didn't come in last place the moment it made it to your list haha. But keep in mind, that since this laptop was all I've had until I decided to built my first PC a couple of weeks ago, I was running F@H 24/7 for a little over a month straight and managed to obtain a whopping (drumroll please...............................) 106,345 points!!!

What sucked is I kept getting WU's for the GPU that had 7 days to complete, but the ETA on a fair amount of them would start out at 9 days lol (why they didn't automatically exclude those that would take longer to finish that time allowed is beyond me. Just a waste of electricity and time)

So, woken up to my main rig refusing to post, then had to go sort some things, and three behaviour is just weird! FML I can not be arsed trying to fix this today.

I agree with @cbigfoot only fold with the GPU for a bit.  Most laptops share the heat pipe / spreader and single cooling fan between the CPU and GPU even when it's a discrete GPU.

With both running 100% heat there is no chance the heat pipe will be designed for that and you will likely thermal throttle both leading to the slower fold times.

My number ranges are CDN/US pricing based on the past few months where they have been selling more than they are shipping.

At least here I'm seeing only the highest end cards and lowest end cards reliably in stock and at inflated prices due to availability.

A cdn 2060 Super EVGA tripple slot card used to be 545$ in Dec... now if you can find one it's closer to $700,  but you can still find the odd 2070 Super at $700 which was normalish... but it will be a cheap, low clock blower card etc.   Not the next aftermarket cooler one you could get for the same price in Jan.

I'm very interested to see Nvidia drop the next series of cards to see what happens to cost and supply as the production / shipping interruptions kinda robbed us of what is usually the clearance price days of the 20 series cards.

Even the event is only barely enough to counter the drop :(
