Hmm .. @Zberg I thought F@H is well optimised not to consume resources when other programs are running, I am never stop F@H while I game and I don't see a difference (maybe is based on the game)

There is a PPD impact on the GPU, big or small depending on the game, how much VRAM is uses and you have etc. even if small it's there and if the game you are playing is CPU heavy, that can choke the GPU and drop PPD that way.

I can monitor PPD production and watch it drop watching a YouTube video... hell, a bunch of us proved there was a tiny impact from animated GIFs in browsers.

If it's on screen and moving it's running the 3D mode of the video card (in windows 10 anyways)... PPD is highest when your screens have turned off and GPU can just go Burr.

Depends on game.  Doom eternal very well optimized so can still play with good rates, but PPD drops to about half when I play.  I play some lighter games that dont affect it, but recently ive been just wanting to finish that one.  Ill never catch @cbigfoot at that rate!

Well...I'm aiming to stay in the top 100 by the time this is over. *FINGERS AND EVERYTHING ELSE CROSSED* 24/7 folding is fun! Maybe I should OC a bit juuuuust to make sure. Or inject some NOS. NOS works on everything, right guys? Right?

to be honest injecting NOS directly into the finstack of the GPU would probably cool it down a lot. meaning you could clock higher.

so yes, NOS would work!

AWESOME!! Now I need what....3,000 tanks of NOS to keep it constant? 🤣 I have no real knowledge about NOS. Just passing knowledge about more oxygen, burning hotter, cylinders firing faster. That's about it. I'd rather build computers than cars. 😇

Some observations from folding in the cloud...

As many of you know, I fold entirely in the cloud. I've evolved my software to scour the planet for the cheapest GPU instances and grab them on the spot market. When the price is cheap, my software will spin up to 10 GPU containers on g4dn.xlarge and commence folding. What I've discovered this week is how dynamic the market can be.

It's been a nice exercise in Infrasctructure As Code, software development, DevOps, and git.

Mumbai is a complete tease. Crazy cheap GPU instances that last for a couple hours then get interrupted. There must be some big customer workloads that run a few times a day and interrupt the spot market.

Canada has been steady eddy. I suspect there is more capacity than demand in Canada. It's not the very cheapest but was never interrupted.

West coast was a mixed bag. Ran about 85% of the time uninterrupted and at a good rate.

After the contest, I'm dedicating most of my GPU budget back to my crazy moonshot project. Real-time deep fakes at high quality. Would anyone be interested in a livestream of how to cloud fold or do deep fakes or other interesting cloud stuff? Gauging interest. My daughter is a professional twitch streamer so I'm sure she can get me started.

btw while Gaming, i pause the Vega and the cpu in Advanced client ( or set down CPU to 2 or so, depending on Game ) let the RTX crunch while Gaming and after Game fire up the Vega again... best gaming performance and still crunching

I would love to see a stream or video on the automatic cloud instance / scaling for folding.

And Canadian data centers are more cost effective as we just open the windows for most the year to cool ;)

Go figure that on the 2nd to last day, I'm getting shit for points. And I've got no clue why my points were so damn low early this morning!

And my current GPU fold shows I'm only set to get 1,100,000 PPD which is about 700k lower than usual.

Guess today just isn't my day

Go figure that on the 2nd to last day, I'm getting shit for points. And I've got no clue why my points were so damn low early this morning!

And my current GPU fold shows I'm only set to get 1,100,000 PPD which is about 700k lower than usual.

Guess today just isn't my day
