For those who've specified COVID-19 work units, has anyone else been receiving cancer-related work units from time to time? Just recently noticed that's been happening to me over the last week or so.

Is this setting just a preference prioritisation of work units rather than a hard selection setting? So I'm getting cancer related work units because COVID-19 work units have  been running out? It used to be my F@H client would just idle if out of COVID-19 work unit instead of working on other types of work units.

I've gotten a handful of ebola and cancer units prior to the event on my 1080 but all my AMD cards have been crunching P14201 for the past week. They'll occasionally get a different covid unit that tanks the ppd.

As it says, it is just a preference not a guarantee.

I am actually stuck at like 70% production for reasons mostly unexplained, and some mildly self inflicted

My 2080ti at work has run 24/7 for some time, always able to be in beta or advanced, and would always run non stop without fail.  It has great airflow, great temps, and no overclock (and a good PSU).  It is now failing stuff all the time in advanced and beta queues and I dont have a good reason for it.  I used to happily sit at 4.9-5.5 mil ppd between the GPU's and now due to that one failing and then sitting their idle, im stuck at like 3.5m.  I wonder if that GPU is pooping out (would be sad, its only been folding for a few months).  Latest drivers, and plays games flawlessly with good clocks and temps, but it being annoying as hell with folding.  I dunno.

Then on my home rig...well games have to be played, they just have to sometimes :) that part is self imposed.

Are you confused on which instance type to use or how to set it up?

Both. I can get the CPU bit to work on Linux (I've got 3 Linux machines Folding as I type) but none of them have graphics.

I want to launch a graphics instance, but have no idea who's best to use, or how to do it.

I'm strangely not benefiting from "unleashing" the 1070ti's fromt heir 60% fold limit to 10% and slightly OC'd levels.

image.png.54f084bca93d76147fc20591648757b6.png

The two alone produced the 1.8M PPD average I had before (May20-Jun11), but now 100% power and with my 1080ti@2ghz, they're only producing about 3M ppd (1.2-1.3m for the 1080ti) which means that A, either the extra heat is downclocking them back to under powered mhz levels (i havent checked ITNOS itself in a couple of days, just made sure it was folding in F@H client) or B, P0 state isnt fully enabled (even though I used that nvidia tool to try and force P0)

I guess I'm not super worried about it, just weird that at 110% power with no OC IIRC and 60% power with a +150mhz, I get the same PPD but for only about 60% of the power consumed LOL.

2080 Ti does a big fold. Quite the step up from a GTX 1080 and 2x GTX 980 before that.

That's great to hear on both fronts, save your eyes and looking forward to the 2070 super data, it's the missing card of the RTX supers in the DB list currently! :)

Well so far I've moved the 2070 Super from 13th place, up to 9th. I've also given it tons of data on project 14201 since for some reason that is all my GPU has been running for the past couple days lol

But I am curious as to how the 2060 Super has gotten so high on your list. The PPD is about what my 2070 S averages.

The ranking can be two fold.

The 2060 Super samples are in large part from myself running factory overclock EVGA cards dialed in to not thermal throttle, cards like the XC ultra with 3 slot coolers.

The next is that those cards are running on Linux mint and getting higher PPD than they did on Windows.

So depending on cooling, OS and drivers etc. might be giving your card some run for the money as they are very similar.

The real funny is when you realize that the 2060 supers for like $500 do 1.7-1.8 Mil PPD.
Then the 2070 Super once it averages out will do about 1.8-1.9 mil PPD. for 6-700$
Then for way more money $800 to $1200 the 2080 Super does around 2-2.1 Million PPD

Price to performance the 2060 Supers are PPD machines under the right conditions.

All that said... it's comparing apples to oranges a bit so already working on tracking the OS with the results submitted so I can sub parse the PPD scores by OS as well as a Linux machine just has less overhead and can fold much differently than windows, including do more with less PCIE lanes on a slot etc.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the WUs varry greatly in PPD, so it can also be a matter of what random WUs you have been issued vs the ones the 2060 Supers have been... which is why I wanted a DB that updates over time on realtime info as the static lists never take that in to account.

Ahh, gotcha. That makes a lot more sense now as to why not only were the PPD very simiar, but also the # of samples they had.

I'm running just a 2070 Super Founders Edition which was only $499 USD and running a slight OC @ 1995mhz right now. Very slowly trying to dial it in, it was at 2070mhz one day and didn't realize for a while that it was causing all the WU's for the GPU to fail.

Then the 2070 Super once it averages out will do about 1.8-1.9 mil PPD. for 6-700$
Then for way more money $800 to $1200 the 2080 Super does around Million PPD

That kind of thing is why I went with 2 X 2060. I got 2 EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 SC ULTRA GAMING 6GB for £600 and they are doing around 2.3M PPD that's good PPD for the money.

To be honest... like on the 2060s i'm running, I suggest no OC, leave it stock.   Set the power target lower on the card and set the fans to run on a more aggressive curve.

Stable cards running cooler get more PPD in the moment and in the long run when they don't crash on work units.

The biggest upgrade I have done folding really is improving cooling in my cases with fast / quiet fans like noctua 140mms

Oh... and if you're still using the PC you can drop PPD a lot as doing stuff still uses the GPU even just in windows or watching youtube etc.

The 2060's I have running are on a headless linux box that only fold.   They are running best case.

It's the right move.   If you already have a 2080ti awesome... fold away.

But if you're building folding rigs the 2060 Supers are a great value and you can get 4 for the cost of one 2080ti getting 8 Mil PPD almost compared to the 2080tis 4.1 mil.
