The (guessed) idea behind 5G isn't necessarily to serve individual customers faster data speeds, but rather, to allow very many more users on it without compromising usability. In that respect, I'd like to see the kinks ironed out as this would be very useful for population dense areas like stadiums, or trade shows.

I've heard as much, although I wonder if this is an inherent benefit of the technology, or just a happy side effect of the fact that so many more towers are needed just to cover an area due to the penetration issues.

5G is the dumbest, most worthless standard I've seen in ages. I'm already having problems using 5GHz WiFi inside single house and these idiots are trying to apply similar shitty range tech to outdoors. Good luck retards. It was destined to fail even before it even really took off. The fact you need so many base stations makes absolutely no sense. I mean littering locations with hundreds of transmitters in space of few 100m2 is just ridiculous.

There were a few documentaries on it in the Uk... probably not safe for work to look up... but they put people in ice baths. XD

@LAwLz Just look up the medical tests/experiments/etc. It's temp all the way AFAIK. So anything that effects/affects temp has a change. (I would guess it's down to how close to the transmitter you put your pants... as all transmitters will get a little warm from electrical operation, and some may have heating effects from the wavelength, but I've not checked wavelengths).

but at that point you might as well just get a couple of good routers and place them around the stadium and get the same speeds as 5G. and i bet that is probably way cheaper than what verizon is charging and you dont need people to go buy a 5G capable phone

I'm dealing with my carrier (AT&T) right now about receiving spam SMS messages from random email addresses - Evidently, there's nothing they can do at this point. My wife and I also deal with Spectrum/Time Warner for our internet coverage who boast about the 'fastest' download speeds in town. We are being ripped off for their 100 Mbps package, paying $70/month and getting between 20-40 Mbps.

 

These businesses 'brag' about their 'outstanding' coverage and speeds...that is, until they have your money.

 

Telecommunications companies prove everyday how worthless and deceitful they are.

As for the topic, I don't know why anyone is surprised.  The tech requires way too much extra hardware to be widespread, which is why I don't see it getting rolled out anywhere but densely packed urban areas, and even then it will be slow going.

Slightly off kilter, but we were discussing ISP's in general and how they do not deliver on their promises. They ensure everyone that they are using the 'latest and greatest' technology but cannot even protect people's privacy by finding a way to block spam text messages when it comes from an email address. I don't know about you, but I feel their laissez faire approach to security is as concerning as carriers not delivering when it comes to coverage or speed.
