Help with configuration of a Virtual Machine

Go to solution Solved by Levent,

1) not unless capacity of it is not enough for you.

2) nope.

3) VMware workstation is free for home users now other alternative is virtualbox.

4) you might be able to, not sure.

Hello! I recently got a laptop as a hand me down, it's pretty low spec and doesn't have much upgrade path, so I need guidance in creating a virtual machine to use with my laptop.

I have a pc which I would like to use as a VM,

For reference my pc is:

I7 12700F

32gb ram

6500xt

256gb SSD

Windows 10

My main questions are:

1)Should I add another ssd for vm?

2)Do I need another GPU?

3)What software should I use?

4)Can I set it so that only my efficiency cores are used in vm?

Another reference, I have an extra GPU available and i also have extra harddrive.

So if anyone suggests that I should use seperate SSD and GPU,that can be managed,as I will instead of using an SSD on my laptop with windows 10,I will instead use Linux with a harddrive. So my PC's vm can have the ssd

It's possible to run through gpu with different os but you can't use it on main screen you gotta add second screen to output in order to see what you're doing.

Unless you're tinkerer and don't care about lots of work.

You can look into looking-glass software.

You can add hdd to main system and simply make virtual disks in there.

Many ways you can do with it.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.

Regardless of compatibility 🐧🖖

What do you mean by a virtual machine to use by your laptop? What tasks? Are you going to remote into the VM?

I'd just remote into the desktop instead of a VM here.

I'd also only remote in for tasks that need it, id do basic tasks like web browsing on the device its self.
