Politicians are STILL trying to kill net neutrality in the US with “Internet Freedom Act”

Source 1: linustechtips.com OP: Victorious Secret

Source 2: arstechnica.com

  • republican Marsha Blackburn introduced the “Internet Freedom Act”

  • would overturn the FCC’s title II designation and all net neutrality rules

  • net neutrality rules “shall have no force or effect, and the Commission may not reissue such rule in substantially the same form, or issue a new rule that is substantially the same as such rule, unless the reissued or new rule is specifically authorized by a law enacted after the date of the enactment of this Act” under the Internet Freedom Act

  • legislation has 31 republican cosponsors

  • latest election cycle saw Blackburn receive $25,000 from AT&T PAC (political action committee), $20,000 from a Comcast PAC, $20,000 from a cable industry association PAC, and $15,000 from a Verizon PAC

  • sad that $80,000 is all it takes for these extremely profitable companies to completely control a member of congress

  • Blackburn “has been leading the fight against the Obama Administration’s Net Neutrality regulations since they were first proposed in 2010 by Former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski.”

  • has filed multiple “Internet Freedom Acts” in 2011 and 2014, though this version aims to eliminate ALL FCC net neutrality rules rather than only blocking some and blocking Title II

  • Tom Wheeler (FCC Chairman) believes the current FCC rulings stand on strong legal ground, and is prepared to fight for them in court

Will content under NDA such as the up-coming Titan X be released to both Vessel and YouTube simultaneously after NDA? Or will such content also have the week of delay until it reaches YouTube?

Anyway i really like your weekly show and wanted to say that you are doing an excellent job.

I look forward to next week's The WAN Show as it can only get better than this week.  One of the few shows I did not enjoy that LTT has done and some of the reactions to certain things coming out surprised me.  I cringed a few times.

Nice Show, enjoyed that a lot.

Feels like there were some huge topics squeezed in though...aaah the news business, some times no news and other weeks, news can't be turned off.

Did chuckle that Luke ended up at PAX...like the weather reporter going out to chase tornadoes and always being in the wrong county...

Keep up the good work LTT

In regards to the 150 ms that NVIDIA posts for GRID latency.

I have a certain belief that NVIDIA chooses to stick with the 150 ms number due to patent legislation, whereas in the real world, they are likely able to achieve latencies a degree lower than 150 ms e2e (end to end, from user-input to user-display).

I've pulled up a few patents that OnLive owns, and a simple search will show that OnLive has filed for several patents in the spectrum of "less than 150ms."

https://www.google.com/patents/US20110092291?dq=inassignee:%22Onlive,+Inc.%22+150+ms&hl=en&sa=X&ei=_C38VLroNZS2oQSE_oH4Bg&ved=0CB0Q6AEwAA

Search:
https://www.google.com/search?tbo=p&tbm=pts&hl=en&q=inassignee:%22Onlive,+Inc.%22&gws_rd=ssl#safe=off&hl=en&tbm=pts&q=inassignee:%22Onlive%2C+Inc.%22+150+ms

Likely just a matter of not accidentally on stepping on other people's toes.

In regards to the "Home" GRID - this is something currently marketed by NVIDIA to enterprise customers. i.e., I speculate Sony's Playstation Now uses their GRID servers. It might come to the general consumers in the future, but I'm not sure it will happen (from NVIDIA) due to business interests. But maybe - just maybe. It really depends on what different companies enable in the future.

BTW, Linus, the PS4 controller is a much, MUCH better PC controller than the X360 one. It's bigger than it's predecessors, super comfortable, and the community made drivers out there give it more functionality than any controller out there. And it doesn't require proprietary nickel battery packs, nor proprietary wireless dongles.

In your opinion.

It is objectively better. It is rechargeable out of the box unlike any Xbox controller ever (the Xbox division apparently has yet to discover lithium batteries), it's plug and play on PC through USB or Bluetooth, no $20 proprietary doodads (I've even used it on an android phone; aren't standard protocols amazing?), the touch pad can be used as a regular multitouch pad on the PC, and plenty of community made drivers give it full remapping (and not just swapping buttons, but just about anything, even media controls), macro support, and profiles. The Xbox 360 controller can only do one of those things as far as I know, and the Xbone controller so far can do none of them because, for some reason, Microsoft's own controller isn't even plug and play on their own OS. Derp.

Cool!

So still, in your opinion, it's better than the 360 controller when playing games. I can use my 360 controller with my tablet using an OTG cable, too.
