Huawei is the next Nexus maker confirms Kevin Yang from iSuppli

eca86bd9e2eb14a4722b38.jpg

While I would have preferred to see the Nexus reigns go back home to HTC, Google things we need some fresh blood for the Nexus program. Good idea? Who knows. I do know that Huawei might have a grasp on what consumers want out of Nexus device better than Motorola did when they (or Google) suggested paying 750 bloody dollars for a Nexus 6, a nice 400 dollar hike compared to the Nexus 5.

If Huawei can inject flagship features and build quality for a hell of a lot less, I'm on board with it.

A few days back, we reported that Google might partner up with a Chinese OEM for its next Nexus device. Later, we came to know that that along with this Chinese OEM, Google will also partner with LG for a new Nexus device in 2015.

Now, Kevin Yang, the Director of China Research at iSuppli, a leading market research firm, confirmed on Weibo earlier today that Google has indeed chosen Huawei as the next Nexus maker. This is in line with the previous reports about Huawei entering into a partnership with Google to make this year’s Nexus device.

The major reason why Google went with Huawei could be because its the biggest competitor to Xiaomi at the moment. While everyone would have loved a Xiaomi Nexus device (in fact our recent survey showed that 43% readers would have liked a Xiaomi made Nexus), Huawei too has shown great promise in 2014 with releases like the Ascend Mate 7 and the Honor 6 Plus. Still, its very surprising that Google did not choose Motorola for its new device this year.

nexus devices are 100% googles resposibilty and design, the N6 designers used moto design languaje of the X 2014 into the N6 but that it is a phablet that sells for iphones prices is googles all fault, the OEM is just an advisor and the manufacture of the device

as for huawei being the next OEM, my biggest worries are going to be build quality and specs though i think they went with them just to manufacture a device that gonna be designed by google from straight zero and dont take elements from other devices the OEM manufactures

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

But the Nexus 6 is $650 and $700... Here in the US at least. Still a big jump from the Nexus 5's price though.

I'd like to see another good nexus device at a reasonable less insane price. I have my doubts about Huawei though I've avoided them in the past after my now ex owned one and it was complete shit in both performance and quality.

I don't mind this decision; Huawei has been getting better in terms of mobile devices (Ascend Mate 7 isn't too shabby, though the CPU/GPU is so-so).But I really think this is a move by Google to more easily get into the Chinese market since Huawei is a pretty big player there

There's rumor that there will be two Nexus devices made, one cheaper one, and one more expensive. Huawei would be used for the cheaper one.

However, it's way too soon to put any real weight on these rumors.

I really love how Google partners with Android device makers to make Nexuses. I am sure Google could do it themselves, but I believe they are trying to promote handset makers.

Qualcomm most likely, after all Google decides everything about the phone.

Interesting, different manufacturer each year.

Huawei has some decent budget phones so I kinda trust them.

This could also mean that next Nexus could be back to £400ish at launch and drop to £300+ few months later. I would love that, but who knows.

If google wants to sell another £500 phablet this year or early next year, they can frankly GTFO !

Or fine, release £500 phablet along with £350-400 smartphone with 5.5" screen max,1080p res, 8-12mpx rear sensor, 3gb ram, 32 or more storage and I will be happy :)

I agree with the nexus 6, that's a monstrosity of epic proprtions. The moto x design does not suit a large size at all and the whole device is far too big. The nexus 9 however, is quite a nice design if you ask me, the only issues are the buttons, I find them too mushy but the overall look is quite nice to me.

Well everyone will have their own opinion, but I really can't think of anything exceptionally good with the Nexus 9, and I can think of a ton of things that are just flat out bad.

I am excited to see what Huawei will be able to do. The Nexus line needs to go back to being high end hardware at low prices.

I agree with the nexus line needing to go back to what it does best, which is offering people the recommended specs for the latest version of android whilst targeting it towards developers and purists like previous versions were primarily for, not the fashion concious like the N6 is targeted at. Huawei seem to be good at doing that, constantly undercutting their western counterparts whilst getting the same performance out of them, so maybe they could make a competitive nexus once more.

Why blame HTC and Moto when the nexus devices are all  based on decisions from Google ?

Nexus devices are made in collaboration. Manufacturers like Motorola and HTC pitch Google different designs and then they work with Google to refine them. That's why for example the LG G2 is so similar to the Nexus 5. LG pitched something similar to the LG G2 (maybe even the exact same phone) to Google, and then they made the changes that turned it into the Nexus 5 together.

It's not Google designing the phones from the ground up all by themselves.
