I've resisted turning on the furnace seeing as I have about 1500W of heating going down but it's in the basement, which is nice and toasty.

 

When the kids have complained that it's cold in their rooms I've just been telling them to turn on their computers and start folding being the evil dad I am with an agenda.

 

One of them finally caved (folded? )

 

I'm not pushing it with the wife though as that may make me cave and have to start the furnace.

 

I suspect I can get another couple of weeks even though the forecast is calling for snow tonight.

So I know that this will be super short lived.... but I am finally in the top 10... being number 10. Unfortunately this will go away in days, and then be a long time before I get back into top 10... but I am going to claim this as a personal best win. @Igor_Sinelnikov is all over me, and @BenF is running up on me quick as well.

Can't remember in what thread that i read that LTT built an own F@H-server and I just watched the video. But when i check the F@H Server stats, it's no longer in in the list - linus1.foldingathome.org and I can't ping it either.

From my understanding other Universities doing the research spun more up to handle the load. and the covid crunch is "gone for now"

Have you posted on the main foldingforum and told them about your extension? Yours is the first FaH tool I know of that automatically collects hardware information and points data - the developers working on the main client might be interested in your solution!

They know it's out there, I have made them aware on their forum... official word last time I looked was they only care about the core client, no side projects or PPD related stuff... just the hard science which makes sense.
If that's changing now, it would be cool.

I wonder if they are thinking that making an under-performing machine too obvious might discourage people donating processing power?

Personally I just want to be able to see all clients which unless they fix the Mac bug that stops the API working, having the website show it is the only real option.

Speaking off the addon though, is there potential for it being more fully featured as a replacement for FAHControl?  I get that's possibly beyond the scope of how it currently works, maybe something I could work on myself even.  I currently I just probe all the clients every 5 seconds with a PHP script on my server and generate a single json file with the relevant information for easily parsing with JavaScript.  I only just really considered I should perhaps add pause functionality, though currently it only displays clients with an active queue to save space on my homepage.

When LARSystems came up with the tool, the Folding@home team were struggling to keep volunteer's computers filled with work. I think that was a problem even as late as last year's (2020) folding month. And earlier that year they had to implement FAHCore22, set up all those new servers, implement the CUDA optimizations for nVidia GPUs, fix the protein folding viewer, etc. So I think they just had other, more pressing things to do first.

Well after another enforced vacation in hospital which ment I missed most of folding month i'm back. I'm glad to say my system managed to keep folding all the way during may absence and I managed to finish the event in 25th place. Well done to everyone that took part and congratulations to all the prize winners.

On January 4th of 2021 I had just slid into 69th place, and on January 24th I had finially finished 10K work units and was almost at 1 billion points. Now as we start to close out 2021 short of some real sudden bullshit (which I do of course encourage) I will end in 9th place with 4.5B points and 26K work units. 

I check daily my place, the teams place, the number of new users and frankly I am always encouraged a little when I see the +10 in the sub 1000 point place which shows new users jumping in for the first time. Over this year I have seen some titans walk away for various reasons as well and seen the very valid bemoaning of a second horrible year of chip shortages. With all of that I wanted to say thank you for a hobby that fills a bit of my time, lets me dump some OCD energy out, and help the world a smidge.

You rock, keep doing your thing.

If you don't mind my $0.02. I didn't dabble in folding until 2020. Started going fairly hard on it this year. I know I don't participate in conversation here much, but I truly am impressed with the community that has been built around a common cause. 

We all got into Folding for various reasons, some closer to us than others. Medical research is close to me through my brother, folding doesn't help with that, but while we were growing up he was a part of a bunch of experimental treatments. There was a point where no one thought he was coming home from the hospital after being born. He's now 26, living on his own in a supervised living house working a job. 

While folding, as far as I know, has never directly helped with his needs, knowing what I'm helping with and everyone here is helping to get families answers and trying to keep that rollercoaster away.

Have there been a post that Folding Moonshot sprint 11 is active since december 27? I had no idea so i am going to restart my system tonight to get up and running again, my GPU gets in disabled mode after i put my system in hibernation at night when i'm not actively folding.  Doesn't help to restart FAH-client, only a full reboot of the system.
