*backstory*

So my mothers laptop refuses to install our wireless printer, so I have her laptop sending items to print thru my desktop. So everytime she wants to print, my system has to be on and logged in.

*story*

So one morning she wakes me up because she needs to print something important. I tell her to hit the red blinking power button (I keep my computer in sleep) and my password. So I fall back asleep and 10min later she come up to me saying my computer is not working. Worried I jog half asleep downstairs only to find out that she did everything I told her, but she never turned on my monitor... *facepalm* She spend 10min staring at my turned off monitor waiting for my computer login screen to pop up.

IT Teacher (maybe the most technophobe and illiterate person i have ever met) could not teach, and certainly could not teach IT.

Used 2006 PDF instructions ripped off the internet as teaching material, and gave them to students, then 'supervised them' from the front of the class as they figured it out themselves.

too bad if you didn't know what to do when errors.

Best moment was when she needed to printscreen, and she didn't know how.
"Alt-F4" a student piped up.

"It's all disappeared" she cried having done it
"It's gone to the library to print. You'd better go collect it"

She did, and was gone for 14 minutes. She was genuinely confused as to why it hadn't printed yet when she came back.

I knew it would be a good story when I read that much. But how the fuck did she get and keep her job?! No one decided to take a step back and say "Well, maybe we shouldn't hire this person who is afraid of computers"

That's bullshit. I'd have sued them.

So just because of some stupid people you can't go your own path, can't you do something go to court or something.

It's a dead end. Two of my friends both had the same thing happen to them, both sued, neither got anywhere. You can't sue the government when the official dispute handler for the government is the government.

The it teacher in my school was as bad if not worse (hence why I just didn't take it, what I knew before starting university I had learned by myself. A friend of mine who did take it and came to the same university I did knew basically nothing, because this teacher 1) didn't know what she was talking about and 2) couldn't bother actually doing lesson and minded her own business while the students had a micro-lan party to pass time. I'm pretty proud of being the guy who actually passed them the "portableized" games), the problem is that when they test a teacher to see if he/she is fit for the job they only look at credentials and have a short dialogue that's completely unrelated to the subject he/she will teach.

'supervised them' from the front of the class as they figured it out themselves.

A networking lecturer (HND[1] course) I had was like that, only he really knew his stuff, but couldn't or rather wouldn't teach he used to say "I am a facilatator not a teacher you will understand/learn more if you actually have to solve problems yourselves" if we really got stuck he was very "here let me" rather than explaining what was going on.

One of the reasons I was doing the course, rather than learning myself with a couple of books at home, was so I had a teacher but the lecturer was retiring at the end of this year and wasn't about to 'bust a gut' going above and beyond the bare minimum.

So, to anyone who remembers, a couple of weeks ago my friend bought an H100i and got really mad at me because he had issues fitting it in his Define R4.

Well, long story short, umm, he forgot to take the stock Intel cooler off. When he told me that was why it didn't fit I was just like

One of my moms friends couldn't use the wifi, he was wondering why.  So, I checked his computer and found his adapter was turned off.  I told him what was wrong and he said "whats a wireless adapter?"

The 2 most annoying conversations I have with my father:

1. Father: "This computer is too damn slow, I can't do anything on this thing!" (It's a pre-built HP with a Pentium 4) Me: "I can build you a new one since I have some spare parts I could use." Father: "No, it's fine."

2. *Father has a lamp facing the keyboard* Me: "Why do you have that bright lamp on? The screen is pretty bright." Father: I need it so I can see the keyboard." Me: I can get you a keyboard with a backlight so you don't need to use the lamp." Father: "No, it's fine." *continues to blind himself with a bright light*

1 - Is it really fine that it's too slow? Logic dictates not. I'm just thankful my dad would be happy to have his P4 replaced and the only thing stopping him is us being short of cash

2 - Alternatively there's a perfectly good solution to this that was devised way before people started putting backlighting on keyboards. And as a free bonus it decreases typos as you're both looking at what you're typing so will correct more often and also hit the right keys more often. This magical solution I speak of is known as: touchtyping :D

His computer is reallllllyyyy slow, like my PC is 200% faster than the P4 with a dying SATA I HDD. I have no idea how that HDD keeps chugging while it's failing, even though it has gone from SATA II speed down to SATA I. Like if I click show desktop, I have to wait literally 5 seconds for it to show me the desktop. I guess I've been spoiled by my SSD...

I know them feels - our P4 takes minutes to do anything in Windows and even takes a little while in Linux Mint (which is running off a newer and less dead HDD), but it still manages 'basic' tasks quite well.

I just spent most of my SSD money on xmas presents and steam sales :( Could afford a 120GB but would rather get a 240 because it's just more worth it.
