  1. We have a cycling Discord started by a few York University members. Has about 180 members, I'm not gonna post an invite link unless I get permission. DM me if you want to join.
  2. We need to support a movement like this over here. Or start one.
  3. Time to follow this thread.
  4. The problem isn't the newness of the PSU, the problem might be its quality. Corsair VS series sits on Tier C at best. Then again, the problem might not be the PSU at all. Eliminate each suspect by swapping in/out components and see if the issue persists.
  5. Not sure when or what bug but I've been using their encoders without issue for a good while now.
  6. Depends on your ambient temperature. Make sure you have adequate mounting pressure (screws on cooler tightly done). Anything below Tjunction (and some below freezing min) is the temperature range the CPU is designed to work with. For Ryzen the max temp is 95C. Sounds like your PSU is busted. Try swapping it and see if the problem gets fixed.
  7. You are more or less effectively saying "I need this because I know I will use it". Do you have a WiFi 6 router to match? You should also learn about WiFi 6 before declaring I neeeeeed it
  8. "Future proofing" is really a dumb thing. Nobody can predict the future. Just buy what you need and what you know you'll need in the future. You sure you need 12 cores? Then get 12 cores. You need 802.11ax? Then get that. There's no way you can guarantee you will need it or use it few years down the line. I recommended the 3900X because I thought your work software will benefit from it. If you need fast internet connectivity, just go wired. Don't chase this rabbit hole of "future proofing". Time and time again this has led to buyer's remorse. Buy what you need. Sim
  9. CPUs have overheat protection nowadays. Anyways, good on you for going used route. Always make sure you can test the part yourself before you buy it from a seller. That automatically rules out eBay.
  10. Why the downgrade? You need that expensive of a motherboard? Cheaper kit with less eye candy, everything else the same: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zcH8TW/gskill-ripjaws-v-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c16d-32gvkc
  11. Sapphire Pulse, Gigabyte Gaming OC or Powercolor Red Dragon. Check reviews. Gigabyte would win purely on noise because it's a triple fan setup.
  12. And again, Buildzoid to the rescue. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-cw7A2MDHPvA-oB3OKXivdUo9BbTcsss1Rzy3J4hRyA/edit
  13. With a build like this you're better off buying used. Fair to say this won't last long and paying full price for all of this would be a terrible rip-off.
  14. I go by Notebookcheck's recommendations. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Notebookcheck-s-Top-10-Multimedia-Notebooks.98608.0.html
  15. AMD is very keen to tell you how far they have caught up. https://www.anandtech.com/show/14525/amd-zen-2-microarchitecture-analysis-ryzen-3000-and-epyc-rome/2 As for independent "IPC" testing: Do note someone reported some issues with the PSU I mentioned. You can use that, or Corsair's RM equivalent or Seasonic Focus GX. Just go by the tier list. I personally use a TX550M, and that has been a very reliable PSU.
