I had this lady call in yesterday who didn't seem to understand that changing her IP address isn't going to stop her husband from receiving death threats via email.  An IP change won't stop people from sending you an email, only blocking their email address helps with that.  Then, she wants us to stop people who already doxxed her husband.  Sorry, you're going to have to go the cops on that one.  We can change your IP, sure... but we can't stop them from sending death threats, only the police can do that.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

He was doxxed.  This should be a lesson for why to not be a dick online.

Which, btw, is exactly what he was doing.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

so this one time I was hanging out with my friend who is the manager at a tech shop by where I live and a girl comes in and buys a 2tb hard drive. we let her know that we install hard drives for $1 (the cost of the sata cable we use) and she says "just because I am a woman does not mean I cant work on computers" and leaves in a huff. two days later she comes back in saying that the HDD is not working so we take the computer in to look at it, we open it and the HDD is nowhere to be seen, so we ask her where it is. and it turns out that she scanned it and put the scanned image on her desktop to install the drive. and to top that off she threw away the drive she paid almost $200 for and she wanted us to give her a new one.

EDIT: feel free to quote this comment, I like seeing peoples reactions even though the comment is 2+ years old.

My old boss had a Work Station, it was for CAD, being in metalwork he would design things. now he could design stuff and he was pretty good with CAD. but tech wise... this guy was dumb as a door nob (but this could be because he was also a giant nob).

he would carry this full tower out into the work shop (which has people on grinders and metal dust and all bad bad baaad things for computers flying around the place) and proceed to use the shops compressed Airlines to blow the case out. now these Airlines were not what you call low pressure nor where they free of liquid. and he would get the nozzel, right in there and start blowing it out... he had computer issues several times, complained about it not running as good as it use to.

when i asked him what were the specs on his computer.... he told me it was a open GL pc...... he acted like i wouldn't know.
i asked him "what model is your CPU?"

again he said the CPU was a open GL and that it was really good for CAD according to the salesman.
later on one of the other workers told me he sank $10,000 into the whole setup.... that included the the 3 30"monitors (this was back in 2008 when he brought them. the monitors were about $1500-2000 each). the GPU was a low end Quadro. something like 512Mbs.... (i found the box for it when he left and i was cleaning out his office. i just remember it being 512Mbs). this is guy who i was told was great with computers... only knew how to use SolidWorks CAD and turn on windows.

i gave up trying to help him after the 3rd time he complained and told me a 3rd time. it was a open GL computer and implied i wouldn't understand that...... even when i told him that was just his API.
