Is it really that bad? I was wondering... I also disable pagefile on SSDs to avoid excessive writing but I wonder if there's any performance gain from it which could somewhat justify leaving it on...? After all there are some games known for memory leaking issues like GTA V and Call of Duty IW.

 

I still have virtual memory enable but on one of the storage HDDs.

Virtual memory = pagefile

 

It's not that bad but I prefer to be on the safe side as excessive writes on an SSD isn't optimal in the long term.

 

Having the page on a secondary HDD is a good (better?) option.

Okie then, even though I think my 16gb would be enough to disable it altogether I prefer being safe than sorry, and yes it changes little on the HDD performance/life span I guess, especially because this one is for the college stuff, music, videos etc... most the games are on the other HDD.

Bruh...life was never meant to be easy.  Besides, we don't do research and build PCs because it's easy; we do it because it's fun to us, and/or because a gaming PC is often much more powerful than any console.  In my opinion, putting a lot of hard work into something and admiring the end product is much more satisfying than just having it given to you.  I mean...yes, gifts are awesome.  Who doesn't like gifts?  But what would you cherish more: a PC you spent hours doing research for, building, and setting up, or a console you got for Christmas?

 

Outside of all this, there is such a thing as a pre-built gaming computer.  This route isn't as economical, but it is plug-and-play, just like a console.

 

Also, if you're struggling with PC games, I have a simple solution for you:

I swear to God, I didn't reply anything and just stared blankly. We never EVER talked about VirtualBox!

 

Thinking about it now and I think I might have looked like a deer caught in headlights! I had no comeback, nothing to say, my brain was working overtime to try to make sense of his reply. My brain at that moment probably looked like this:

someone in my class asked me how to upgrade his computer:

me: better cpu

him: no, my Pentium is great for gaming

me: no use of arguing with an idiot ok, get an ssd

him: but I already have enough space

me: but its faster, and worth it

him: which one do I get

me: sends cheapest SSD on pcpp

him: that's so expensive, I don't need 250gb drops it down to 120gb

me: whatever you say ,,,

Step 2: Have an unreasonable amount of time to research, shop around, and assemble parts for your computer.

it's true if you're new to building a pc, but afterwards you can just keep up a bit by seeing new hardware and reviews and you're done for this generation of gpus/cpus

shopping around, I'm surprised most people I talk to (not on ltt) don't know what pcpp is, and don't use it.  

also an hour to assemble your computer is too long imo, well that's how long I took so..

 

Step 3: Get used to the idea that this is something you're going to have to keep investing time and money in as long as you want to stay at the cutting edge or recommended specifications range for new PC games.

stay at the cutting edge.. when is that cheap? when was that ever cheap?

also recommended specs are laughable.. wow, you need a very expensive cpu from 2011 to pass the recommended hardware config, not even the minimal.. that would be a quad core from 2007 (q6600).. even at that, I'm pretty sure the GTX 480 is supported in almost every modern game.. yes, a gpu from 2010.

 

I think the best part is this honestly..

 

It's hard to put all these PC parts together because they're made by different companies, but there isn't even pressure from consumers to come up with better, universal standards that will make the whole experience easier.
