Experiences with non-techies

10 hours ago, Chaoix said:

Its this exact reason why I stopped fixing computers for free for anyone but direct relatives and very close friends. I used to get phone calls from neighbors when I lived with my parents growing up all of the time asking for free computer advice and it gets old real fast. I started asking $20 US to look at it (in 2002 when I was in HS) and it at least filtered out the constant calls and folks would attempt to fix it themselves before paying me to do it.

TLDR; If you gonna be some ones personal IT Guy, you should at least get paid for it.

I don't even fix my parents pc for free(I don't take money)

Here are a few rules if you need my help with your pc/lap/phone

1)dont tell me what/how to do

2)if I say a piece of hardware needs to be replaced It Needs to be replaced /upgraded

3)don't call me, just text I will get back when I am free

4)have the human decency to buy me lunch / beer as I just saved you 2000+rupeea

had a guy that wanted to join the Paladins team i play for that was going to do his trails yesteraday. we use Discord for all comunication and if you dont have a working mic you get booted. so this guy goes, "my mic dosent work in discord but works fine everywhere else! help me plz" and then he starts going on about shit that isnt even remotely related to discord. i tell him to sent a screenshot, but instead of doing that he finds a tutorial video that dosent help at all, so i ask for a screenshot of the problem again. he says he will send it, but guess what, he dosent and he looks up tutorial video after tutorial video untill something magically fixes it for him... if he had sent the screencap i could have helped him fix it in about a minute but noooooooooo he had to be an idiot and waste both his and our time with studpid videos that most of the time did nothing for him -_- turned out he was garbage at Paladins anyway so we put him in the Acadamy which is basically where the noobs go. he was way over the lvl i was when first joined and he still sucked hard :|

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

this is so acurate in lower teirs and all teirs of competetive.... dosent matter how good you get, people still think they are the only ones that can play the game and as a support/flex main thats pretty freaking anoying. had a guy that played Barik(basically enginer from TF2 or Torvald from Overwatch lol) that refused to get cauterize to reduce the enemy teams healing so we couldent do anything about them seeing as they just healed up and never died.... Some people are to retarded for this planet, he said his loadout made it so he didnt need it but there litteraly is no way to have a loadout for Barik that reduces healing by any amount... seeing as noone plays Paladins nobody will have any clue what im going on about though lol

Paladins memes are scarce but litteraly all are gold if you play at a decent lvl. Only the truely dedicated memers make them

Was talking about SSDs with a friend and the conversation went into what you can and can't do...

I talked about how I deal with virtual memory and how I prefer to turn it off if there's enough RAM on the PC.

His reply;

"Ah! So it's (SSDs) bad for VirtualBox!"

I swear to God, I didn't reply anything and just stared blankly. We never EVER talked about VirtualBox!

Thinking about it now and I think I might have looked like a deer caught in headlights! I had no comeback, nothing to say, my brain was working overtime to try to make sense of his reply. My brain at that moment probably looked like this:

I think you need to get your brain checked there shouldn't be just 3 gears in there.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
