Went to some thrift stores yesterday and found two interesting tapes.

image0.jpg

You guys probably care more about the Star Wars tape. It seems to be a proper first printing on VHS from 1982, complete with some worn-out stamp from Magnetic Video.

The second tape, and the reason I got this photo in the first place, is the SpongeBob tape. The second to last SpongeBob VHS released, although this one was printed in April 2006.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

You seem to be the VHS king of the forum...  How do you preserve your tapes?  Do they have a use life?

Frankly, the best way to preserve them is keep them in a room that won't be particularly damp and at room temperature.

They have some use life, but it depends on a number of factors: how it's been preserved, the tape quality itself, the VHS player they're played in and the overall times they've been played. I have a tape from 1984 that played perfectly fine (although the tape itself snapped off one of the reels, so that needs to be repaired; that's just age speaking), while I have very poor condition new old stock tapes from 1999 that really play like shit.

According to Wiki it's a French French dub.

Yeah, for what it's worth I think the SpongeBob French dub is the same across France and Quebec. This tape in particular comes from Quebec, however; I don't have any means to play any PAL tapes. I'd love to do that, though, eventually.

Is it just the seller that is from Québec or is the tape from Québec? Because if the VHS is actually from France, forget PAL and NTSC, they use SECAM, don't they?

The tape itself is from Quebec.

Also yeah, forgot that France uses SECAM. Never really crosses my mind all that often.

Went on a cable buying spree, Amazon Basics USB3.0 cables are of great quality, better than the stock USB3.0 cables that came with my external 2.5" HDD's and HDD dock (USB3.0 Type-A Male to USB3.0 Type-B Male, not in pic). While I was at it, bought myself a VESA certified Displayport cable, I won't be using its full capability as I'm using it on my 3840x1080 32:9 monitor, but should I upgrade in the future, I know my DP cable isn't holding me back.

spacer.png

I'd also gotten a HDMI 2.1 cable, again, won't be using it to its full capability as I'd using it on my 4K 60Hz TV, but should I upgrade in the future, this cable won't hold me back....

spacer.png

Oh yeah, also got out and bought these masks a short while back, opened to try one of each brand and found them to be satisfactory....the 4 ply mask (box at back) is a little harder to achieve a snug fit over the nose bridge though.
