Man, I had a Fury X in my rig off and on for a year. It was a fun card to use, but its VRAM limitations broke my heart, in the sense that I couldn't run Forza Horizon 4 at the settings I wanted to, which wasn't even ultra.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Explain what exactly? I used Cdiscount, Amazon and Fnac to find the best prices/stock on those three items. Amazon wanted me to buy a minimum of two brackets whereas Fnac was fine with one and free shipping to boot. The case was cheap (and in stock!) on Cdiscount but I had to pay a little bit of shipping.

And yeah, I moved to France from NZ about a year ago, left my big computer at home. Now it's looking like I'm staying so I've just started buying parts for a new mITX build to have with me here. It's my first time buying components in Europe and they seem expensive... but I come from an island so I've had worse haha.

Pulled the trigger on this stuff this morning. The RAM was about 5 euro off. Only missing the CPU now (2600 probably), and a cooling solution which I am yet undecided on.

@thevicparableThe way you worded your build made it seem like you were travelling all over Europe and buying components in different countries. That seemed... interesting!

It turns out you're just building a computer like anybody else... but in France! So the prices are steeper. Yeah, it should run you down 1000€, easily. Personally, I like Materiel . net for the great service. But the prices are less attractive. With Amazon and C discount you have to deal with numerous third-party vendors. If everything goes right, you should be fine.

And yep, I'm staying in France too. The economy is so favorable to me. I have steady work for decades and enjoy my job (mostly).

I used to live in Alberta and everything was so expensive and the job opportunities sucked. I was told many times from my bosses that I was disposable. It's even worse these days with the global pandemic.

So yeah, France is awesome!

@kokakolia Ah okay I gotcha! Sorry! No, definitely no travelling around Europe at this point, but I want something I can easily cart around with me if I need to move apartments/cities in the future. Honestly this build isn't essential, but man I'm looking forward to the physical process of it. I got a hefty tax refund back home and my parents are sending over the GPU out of my old rig, so that's keeping costs down.

Funny you say things are expensive in Canada (I don't doubt you), because that's where I bought my CPU, RAM and SSD for my first ever build. I was on holiday anyway and took advantage of deals on Amazon. Oil prices had just crashed, giving me a favourable rate going from NZD-CAD, I think I saved about $200 total. Here Euros are just so expensive to me, but it's ok once you start earning them. Like I said, I wouldn't be doing this build without my unexpected tax refund.

I just realized that my DP cable and USB cable for the mic can't reach to the spot where my tower would sit, so I've got those ordered alongside a shorter CAT6 ethernet cable.

And I may also committed a grave sin because the DP cable in question had.....gold plating on the connectors....

It was the only one available that supported DP1.4

@kokakolia I'll also be moving to France. But I may not be able to bring my monitor. Do you know any go-to web sites for second hand tech, or is ebay a solid marketplace?

@Nup https://www.leboncoin.fr/ is kinda like Craigslist, I haven't bought PC hardware from it but got a little midi keyboard. Second hand market doesn't seem that great here but I imagine it depends where you're going and what you're used to. There are also lots of Facebook groups but I don't use the site at all.

@thevicparableEssentials like food, cell service, internet and rent are ridiculously expensive in Canada. Gasoline and consumer goods are surprisingly cheap compared to the rest of the world.

In France food is cheaper as well as internet and cell service. You can also get really nice furniture (like old-fashioned Louis XVI style pieces) for dirt cheap in France if you go to "Depot-Vente" stores (i.e. Pawnshops).

Leboncoin is the French Craigslist and you'll easily find computer parts second hand there. However, it's questionable whether you'll get the parts you want however.
