Here's a look at some stats about the forum from 2023. Most of the dimensions here are similar to the dimensions from 2022's stats, but they may not be directly comparable because the methodology may have shifted slightly.

Haha lol, even tho I was busy a lot last year I still managed to be active enough to do lots of reacting.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

LLMs are only going to make the situation worse. It won't be long before they "read" active threads and post content that at least attempts to blend in.

I wish I took a screenshot when I reported it, but the “answer” post read like ChatGPT output. The “question” post might have been written by something vaguely resembling a human.

That's an older spam technique which seems to be losing popularity. It was more common a few years ago.

Spammers are already doing this; copying the thread in to AI and asking it to generate a response. AI dramatically rose in popularity in 2023 and spammers were quick to embrace it. 2023 was definitely the year of AI generated spam. Using AI to generate posts seems to have largely replaced the technique of copying and pasting text from other people's replies that was more popular prior to 2023. It seems the same spammers that were using that technique shifted to using AI to generate posts instead.

 

It has been interesting being a moderator here over the past few years and seeing how the trends in spamming have changed and all the sneaky tricks they try to come up with in an attempt to bypass detection.

Posts are hidden (only viewable to moderators), not deleted. It allows us to keep records of why spam accounts were banned and helps us identify patterns that may appear in spam that we can then combat with updated spam filters and other preventative measures.
